Dr. Becker-Phelps, a licensed psychologist, is dedicated to helping people understand themselves and what they need to do to become emotionally and psychologically healthy. She accomplishes this through her work as a psychotherapist, writer, and speaker. She is the author of Bouncing Back from Rejection: Build the Resilience You Need to Get Back Up When Life Knocks You Down (New Harbinger Publications, 2019) and Insecure in Love: How Anxious Attachment Can Make You Feel Jealous, Needy, and Worried and What You Can Do About It (New Harbinger Publications, 2014) and the consulting psychologist for the book Love: The Psychology of Attraction (DK Publishing, 2016). In addition to her blog for Psychology Today, she is a regular writer for the WebMD Relationships blog and is the relationships expert on WebMD’s Relationships message board. She is a warm and engaging speaker who has addressed audiences in large and intimate settings, inspiring them to change, grow, and heal.

She graduated from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. Then she completed her postdoctoral internship in New Mexico at the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Hospital, where she treated Native American children and their families. After her contract ended, she worked at Monmouth Medical Center in NJ as a psychologist and pre-doctoral internship supervisor. Dr. Becker-Phelps later served as clinical director of Women's Psychological Services and chief of psychology at Somerset Medical Center in NJ. The hospital is now Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital -- Somerset, and she continues to be on the medical staff.
