I have been engaged in the practice of psychotherapy for over 25 years. I enjoy working with older children/preteens, teenagers, and adults, and the challenges each of these unique age groups present. As a parent myself, I can appreciate and empathize with the stress that can go along with this family role, as well as its joys. In my sessions I strive to ensure that those individuals I'm working with feel respected, valued, and truly heard, regardless of age. And I invite feedback during our work to assure this is occurring.
The most valuable skill a therapist can bring to a session is his or her ability to actively listen to what participants are saying, as well as the capability to effectively engage with those present. I believe I do both things well.
The process of therapy can feel enlightening, freeing, and soothing, as well as challenging at times. My role as a therapist is to ensure that we are making progress towards your goals, that you feel heard as an individual, and to actively listen to your concerns and not make assumptions about what needs addressed in the session.
