Lawrence Rubin Ph.D, ABPP, LMHC, RPT-S

Lawrence Rubin, Ph.D., ABPP, LMHC, RPT-S is Professor of Counselor Education in the Social Sciences and Counseling Department of St. Thomas University in Miami Florida, an adjunct online professor for the University of Massachussetts-Boston, and a practicing psychologist and play therapist who as a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology(ABPP), specializes in working with children, teens and families. Founding area chair for Psychology, Mental Health and Mental Illness in Popular Culture for the Popular Culture Association, he has edited and co-authored a number journal articles and books at the intersection of popular culture and psychology; the most recent of which include "Using Superheroes and Villains in Play Therapy and Counseling", "Handbook of Medical Play Therapy and Child Life," "Diagnosis and Treatment Planning for Mental Health Professionals: A Popular Culture Casebook Approach" and "Play-based Interventions for Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders." Dr. Rubin is past chair of the Board of Directors of the Association for Play Therapy, and has lectured across the country on the use of popular culture, heroes, and superheroes in play therapy.
