The Perks of Being an X-File-ophile

The truth is out there, isn't it?!

Binge drinking- hazardous and excessive alcohol consumption.....dangerous, potentially lethal.

Binge Eating- recurrent episodes of consumption of abnormally large amounts of foods, suggesting deficit in self-regulation....unhealthy.

Binge watching- socially sanctioned marathon viewing (2-6 episodes) of serialized television programs, typically associated with online media services such as Netflix and Amazon...good....very good!

In anticipation of the January 24th FOX release of a 6-episode run of the "new" X-files, my wife and I binge-watched all 202 episodes of the original X-files series featuring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and a cast of colorful characters including genetic anomalies, criminal miscreants, developmental deviants, monsters, aliens and plain old run-of-the-mill creepy humans!

This shameless indulgence, one that cannot, or perhaps has not yet found its ways into the pages of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders- 5th edition (DSM-5)....was far more than a banal indulgence...it was a philosophical and spiritual pilgrimage, at the end of which I discovered, or perhaps re-discovered 6 fundamental truths.

Truth # 6- Evil thrives when good people do nothing.

Truth # 5- The truth may indeed be "out there", but the search must begin from within.

Truth # 4- The search for truth is always a noble quest.

Truth # 3- Loyalty is its own reward.

Truth # 2- We are more alike than we are different.

Truth # 1- Love is good...hate is bad.
