The Over Prescription of ADHD Medications

Is there a true increase in ADHD or is it due to pharmaceutical companies?

The over-prescribing of stimulants for children has concerned me for about a decade. The two things that worried me the most were medications that were used randomly and the lack of thorough medical follow-up. Since then, the diagnosis of ADHD and the prescription of ADHD medications have only increased. Furthermore, the current version of the DSM includes an adult diagnosis of ADHD. While many children can benefit from appropriate use of medication, the rate of over-diagnosis and over-prescription seems to be growing.
