Brittney Chesworth Ph.D., LCSW
Brittney Chesworth, Ph.D., LCSW, is a clinical therapist and researcher. She has over 15 years of experience conducting research and practice with clients in child welfare, hospice, hospital, university, community mental health and private practice settings. In these settings, she has studied and worked with clients who face anxiety and other mental health issues in addition to helping clients manage co-occurring problems and difficult life circumstances, such as chronic or terminal illnesses, abuse, grief, life transitions, trauma and violent behavior. She has received extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy.
Dr. Chesworth’s role within the mental health field extends beyond client care to teaching and mentoring other mental health professionals. She is a board-approved clinical supervisor for therapists earning licensure, provides workshops to therapists to help them obtain required continuing education units, has taught undergraduate and graduate courses as well as delivered numerous lectures in university and community settings on the use of evidence-based interventions to treat anxiety disorders, anxiety-related disorders, grief, violence, trauma and abuse and chronic and terminal illness. Further, as a researcher, Dr. Chesworth has examined the etiology of various mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression and trauma-related disorders as well as developed and tested interventions to treat a wide range of psychological and behavioral problems. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations and in 2020 received the UNC-Chapel Hill Graduate School Impact Award for the potential impact of her research in North Carolina.
