Genuine Pride Does NOT Goeth Before the Fall

There are many wonderful passages in the Bible...

Though I speak with tongue of men and angels, but have not love, I am become as the sounding brass or the tinkling cymbal.

But the Bible also says that pride is one of the seven deadly sins. The English language, particularly, confuses authentic pride with what might be called false pride or egotism. True pride is the mammalian feeling of being accepted, not rejected by other(s). Indeed it is a necessary part of loving and being loved (I love you just the way you are, and I feel loved by you just the way I am). But in modern societies, the confusion between the two meanings prevails to the point that it taints the positive meaning of pride.

Pride is the opposite of shame (I feel rejected). We can’t get along without it as a part of love. Must we call it PRIDE to make the point?
