Beverly Engel has been a therapist specializing in abuse issues for the past 35 years. She is the author of 25 books, including The Emotionally Abusive Relationship, Escaping Emotional Abuse, and It Wasn’t Your Fault.

In addition, Beverly lends her expertise to national TV talk shows. She has appeared on Oprah, CNN, Starting Over, Sally Jesse Raphael, Donahue, and other programs in the U.S. and Canada. She has regularly contributed to O Magazine and Psychology Today and has been featured in newspapers and magazines, including The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal, and Shape.

Many of her books, including The Emotionally Abusive Relationship and The Emotionally Abused Woman, are required textbooks for domestic violence courses in high schools and colleges. She was a finalist in the Books for a Better Life award for The Power of Apology, and her books are often selected for book clubs such as One Spirit Book Club and Behavioral Sciences Book Club. Her books have been translated into Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Turkish.

Engel lives in Los Osos, California.
