Joyce Marter, LCPC, is a psychotherapist, speaker, and entrepreneur specializing in the psychology of money.

She founded Urban Balance, a national outpatient mental health company in 2004 and sold it to Refresh Mental Health in 2017. She provides coaching and business consultation services to private and group practice owners interested in growing and scaling their businesses.

Marter has blogged for sites such as the Huffington Post, PsychCentral, Marriage.com, MoneyGeek, and more, and is the author of The Financial Mindset Fix: A Mental Fitness Program for an Abundant Life (Sounds True, 2021).

Marter has served as the Chair of the Midwest Region of the American Counseling Association, as President of the Illinois Counseling Association, and for two terms as President of the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association. She also served as a Clinical Supervisor and Adjunct Professor at The Family Institute at Northwestern University from 2005-2020.

She is the recipient of several awards, including "Distinguished Alumni of the Year" from The Family Institute at Northwestern University (2008), “40 Under 40” from Crain’s Chicago Business (2010), the "President’s Award for Excellence in Leadership" from The Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association (2017), and the Robert J. Nejedlo Distinguished Leadership Award from the Illinois Counseling Association (2020).
