Many people come to therapy wondering “what is wrong with me”? It is my view that the real question is "what has happened in your life that has impacted your beliefs about yourself and your ability to cope with stressful life events"? You may notice that you seem to automatically react to situations in a way that you don't necessarily choose and question if you will ever be able to change. If you have experienced highly stressful and/or traumatic events then you will benefit from a therapeutic approach that mindfully explores your personal experiences and strengthens your resiliency to respond rather than react.
Our work will be approached from an Interpersonal Neurobiology framework that utilizes the wisdom of the body, mind and emotions to uncover the patterns that keep you stuck and develop new ways of responding. For those struggling with trauma, I will use EMDR or Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to process and resolve stored memories that have been holding you back.
Counselling will help you to explore the connection between current situations and past experiences and notice patterned instinctual reactions. You will learn to pause before you react by offering yourself compassion and understanding which strengthens your ability to respond from a place of personal choice.
