Brian H. Johns, M.D., specializes in helping people that suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD who haven't responded to traditional interventions. He employs a comprehensive approach to evaluate and address extensive laboratory analysis, genetic testing, psychological and neuropsychological testing, plus additional specialty referrals as needed.

Dr. Johns is a board-certified diplomate of the American Psychiatric Association and co-founder of Advanced Brain and Body Clinic in Minneapolis, MN, one of the only clinics in the country to bill health insurance for the administration of ketamine. He has a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota, where he completed his residency in Psychiatry. He also holds advanced certification from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington DC and understands that each person’s illness requires an individualized approach.

Dr. Johns’ Work in Ketamine Treatment and Research

Dr. Johns performed the first study to add multiple doses of ketamine to existing outpatient regimens with a team of researchers at the Minneapolis VA in 2012. He also consulted with Janssen Pharmaceuticals in the development of esketamine (Spravato), which shares the same active ingredient as ketamine and was approved by the FDA for treatment resistant depression in 2019. Dr. Johns has administered over 10,000 ketamine treatments. In addition to prescribing ketamine and traditional medications for mood, Dr. Johns also provides Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and completed a fellowship in TMS at Duke University.
