I am a compassionate and experienced UCT trained psychologist. For the past twelve years, I have worked at UCT as well as in my private practice. I am on the provider networks of most medical aids, and can apply for PMB benefits where applicable. I have had the privilege of assisting many clients to find ways to manage the challenges in their lives and to build their resilience. I am a gentle therapist and you can expect a non-judgemental space in which you will hopefully feel comfortable and safe. I see therapy as a collaborative process and I am passionate about my work. I also offer online therapy sessions if you prefer this.

I enjoy engaging with people from all walks of life. I've worked with clients from a diverse range of settings - from townships & rural clinics, to psychiatric facilities & now private practice. Life can be incredibly overwhelming, which is why it's crucial to find a supportive space to let it all out & find healthy, effective ways to cope. If you're wanting to learn more about yourself & how to promote your mental health, needing practical skills to improve your relationships, mindfulness skills to deal with your thoughts or ways to manage emotions, so that you're in control - look no further! I'm only working online at the moment.

No doubt you are looking at this site because you want something in your life to change. You want to feel better, get out of a repetitive rut, make some relationship changes or improvements, or just feel better within your own skin. My clients find it a huge relief to share and process their concerns - within the safe space of my counselling room or via secure online therapy. I believe strongly in a gentle therapy method - a non-judgemental and compassionate attitude - creating a safe, nurturing space for healing and change to begin. I am very aware of how vulnerable one feels in making that first appointment. It is worth it!

I do not subscribe to the standard "hmmm, so how does that make you feel?" method of therapy. My approach to therapy is eclectic as I believe that each individual is unique and therefore the psychological intervention for each individual should be unique. I listen to YOU ......and challenge in an interactive manner.

I've studied the science, philosophy, and history of therapy at the University of Cape Town and University College London for seven years, and I have practiced as a counsellor in Cape Town for four years. I believe the mainspring of therapy is love. Everyone who has given or received therapy has gone through a kind of love disorder, and each has a story to tell: a love lost or denied, twisted or betrayed, perverted and shackled to violence.

Life presents us all with challenges. You may be entering a new phase in your life. You may see repeated patterns that negatively impact you, your work and your relationships. Perhaps the uncertainty of COVID-19 has left you contemplating your identity and seeking meaning and purpose in your place in the world. You wish to make sense of the influences of belief, race, class or other systems and the accompanying feelings these evoke. However much (or little) you desire a change or a fresh perspective on life, it's natural to want someone to help you navigate the discomfort and achieve your goals.

Individuals who are willing to explore their experiences and thoughts to optimally navigate life's challenges will benefit from counselling. Being able to identify what it is you want to change or improve is essential to feeling "better" and in control.

All of us have at least one thing in our lives that we wish we could overcome or conquer. As a registered wellness counsellor, my goal is to help clients navigate their way to climbing and conquering the mountain that they face. We often feel alone and like nobody understands us and what we are going through, but my aim is to offer you a space to be heard, to be vulnerable and to encourage you to take the first step toward having autonomy over your own life.

One always assumes that counselling is for those who are facing hardships. I believe that it is so much more than that. It’s about sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly in a safe and confidential space. I hope to be that lifeline and source of motivation for you, no matter what the circumstances. I am registered with the HPCSA as a Registered Counsellor and adhere to there ethical standards and code of conduct.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Psychologists listed in the directory are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). The majority of General Counsellors featured in the directory align themselves with reputable professional bodies, particularly the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners. All Registered Counsellors listed must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for general counsellors in South Africa, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in South Africa.

Psychologists have five years training in psychology, have completed an internship over 12 months, and have completed the National Examination of the Professional Board for Psychology. They must be registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Registered Counsellors must have at least four years of study at a university or college, such as the Bachelor of Psychology and have completed the National Examination of the Professional Board for Psychology. General counsellors, such as Supportive Counsellors, Holistic Counsellors, and Wellness Counsellors, registered with the ASCHP must possess at least an NQF Level 4 qualification. Social Workers must possess a Bachelor of Social Work and must have completed an approved internship in the social service sector.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in South Africa could be between R600 and R1,500. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are registered with the HPCSA and professional organisations such as PsySSA or the ASCHP are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client, or as required by law, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
