I believe in the power of creativity, and the opportunity for new insights and energy to be gained through dialogue and connection. My interests lie in helping people identify strategies to deal with everyday life challenges, specifically around work or academic life, grief, family and relationships.

What I offer therapeutically includes: Trauma work, Cognitive behavioural therapy, Mindfulness, Psychotherapy from a Christian Perspective, and personal growth work.
The wound is the place where the light enters you. - Rumi. Through dealing with my own wounds, I have realized that psychology gives me perspective. I do not take for granted, the priviledge of being part of a very personal process with my clients. I hope to create conditions in which my clients can empower themselves. During 2021 I had my radio, online, and TV debut. Mental health awareness and health promotion is very important to me. Psychology is not only what I do, it forms a profound part of who I am. I work within a person-centred framework and specialise in trauma, self-esteem issues and burnout; often drawing from art, mindfulness and body-based approaches, as well as cognitive-behavioural, solutions-focused and narrative techniques.
Welcome! Whatever has led you here, please know that I would be honoured to hear and hold your story, to talk with you, and to share tools and techniques to help you move forward and create the life that is in your heart. We all have moments in our lives where we find ourselves just not coping; that feeling of constantly treading water with no end in sight; struggling with overwhelm, burnout, stress, fatigue, anger, or anxiety, doubting ourselves and never feeling good enough; being in conflict with others or feeling alone. Perhaps you have gone through a traumatic situation or major life transition?

I like to describe our therapy together as a journey where we walk alongside each other. I won't offer advice but instead encourage curiosity for us to shine light on the hidden truth which we are all capable of finding within ourselves. Movement Psychotherapy - in which I have specialized - while welcoming talking intervention and the spoken language, rather shifts the focus to body movement, trusting the language of the body. - Embodiment. This therapy is creative in its nature meaning we use different modes of art in our explorations. You can expect mindfulness, movement, music, art and play in our sessions.

I offer mindfulness-based therapy, inviting clients in to awareness through which they can start living truly conscious lives.
How is your internal environment? Are you stressed out by the incessant demands life is placing on you? Are you living on autopilot in order to cope, never feeling like you are truly alive? Is your mind full of anxious, negative, self-defeating thoughts & self-talk? Are you tossed about by waves of emotion, reacting to life, leaving you feeling regretful & distressed? How are your energy levels? And your body? Is it well or can you feel the impact of prolonged stress? How are your relationships? How would it be to feel different? To feel energetic & alive. To have choices. To enjoy peace in your relationships with yourself & others?

I incorporate various therapeutic modalities dependent on your needs such as mindfulness, CBT, person-centered and/or narrative therapy.
When we aren't feeling like the best version of ourselves, it's tough to engage in our lives in the way we would like to; our daily stress adds up and pulls us away from the things that are important to us. Whether little things in your life are piling up and becoming overwhelming or you are in the midst of a major life transition, accessing support is an important first step to living a value-driven life. Having a dedicated time in which to process our thoughts with an unbiased listener can build the insight we need to thrive.

Apart from my counselling training at Rhodes University and the South African College of Applied psychology, I have been trained in mindfulness and hypnotherapy, which I have found to be incredibly useful in assisting my clients to build more self-awareness and to use their mind more productively. Whether you simply need someone to talk to - to better explore and unpack your current situation or past circumstances - or whether you are actively wanting to engage in changing certain thought, emotional and behavioural patterns that may be limiting you in your life, my approach can be of great value to you.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
