I'm a strengths-based clinician. Because of life's challenges, we sometimes neglect our personal strengths and focus on our deficits or weaknesses, resulting in a life devoid of meaning and purpose. In therapy, I collaborate with my clients to identify their unique strengths and challenge them to utilize these attributes both in their intra and interpersonal relationships. Our signature strengths can shift our thinking and behaviour from a mental health state of languish to a state of flourish and wellness.

Cedar Psychology was established to cater to different mental health needs within a safe, non-judgmental and containing environment. We all have our ups and downs, where support from family and friends can be enough to help us manage our stress. Sometimes we may feel that we need more. Some may enter therapy because they have felt sad, worried, confused, angry, or numb for a long time, or would like help processing their past. Others may enter therapy because of sudden life changes such as the loss of a loved one, work/school stressors or relationship difficulties. Whatever your reason may be, support is available.

Mental and emotional health can have interpersonal, and social impacts; I aim to provide evidenced-based mental, emotional and behavioral health interventions within the context of families, communities and larger systems, to children, adolescents and adults. During counselling we will develop a collaborative relationship where each client feels empowered to act as an expert in developing effective coping skills, manage anxiety, depression, navigate difficult life transitions, and enhance communication skills and relationships.

As humans, we are social beings. We, therefore, need to form relationships with one another, in order to feel "whole". When an individual reaches out for help with their mental health, they start a cycle of healing. Mentally healthy individuals create healthy families, which spills over into healthy communities, and ultimately, a healthy society. So although I have a passion for working with couples and families - building, restoring and maintaining functional relationships, starts with each individual.

In my practice, I see clients from all walks of life, they often have one thing in common, trauma. Each individual’s experience with trauma is unique, just like our DNA is unique to us. There is no one size fits all method to unpacking and processing what has been traumatic to you. Therefore, it is a collaboration between myself, the counsellor and you, the client, to ensure that the therapeutic process is successful in reaching the goals you have set out to reach. Clients who want to gain control over disempowering moments and memories in a safe environment will feel at home in my office.

In dealing with life's challenges and pressures people may often find themselves feeling demotivated, discouraged and stuck. The demands of different life roles and multiple responsibilities may often lead to high stress levels and even a sense of burnout. Through counselling and therapy life challenges can be explored, and through a problem solving and impactful approach it could bring about solutions to foster new resilience, wellbeing and meaning.

I believe humans are inherently good and get thrown into this world where our blank canvas gets painted on by individuals we never gave permission to do so and events that occur where the canvas becomes damaged. This is where counselling comes into play as counselling provides coping strategies and techniques in which you learn to take control of your canvas and colour it however you want. In other words, you unlearn unhelpful ways and learn new ways of living life in a more fruitful manner. In counselling you also learn to understand yourself better as you create a new and improved version of yourself.

As human beings, we strive towards becoming the best version of ourselves. But life often throws several curveballs at us which can lead to difficult times and severe emotional distress. However, it is never too late to practice the necessary self-care and reach out for guidance and support.

At times we may feel stuck or overwhelmed. We may know what is causing unease or pain, but often we struggle to understand the cause. A therapy relationship at these times, can bring better understanding and help you think in new ways about yourself, your relationships and your journey forward.
