When families thrive, that is when society will thrive. Each member of a family deserves support and care where they are at. I work with people who want to put the work in, in a supportive environment. Most mothers, and parents, are trying their best but still coming up short. They want to feel more empowered in their parenting role, thrive in their relationships, have a meaningful life outside of parenting. Neurodiverse families deserve support, psycho-education, and guidance from an affirming therapist who knows what they are going through.

My particular areas of interest are parent-infant psychotherapy, perinatal and postnatal mental health, women's health and fertility, depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, relationship difficulties, personality disorders and acute psychosis.
My goal is to work together with the client, in a warm and empathic environment to uncover and understand the root causes of emotional difficulties. I explore with the client, unhelpful and unhealthy patterns of being and relating to others, from childhood throughout to adulthood. My goal is to help the client become aware of these behaviors so they might work towards healthier ways of coping and relating to others, thus living a more emotionally fulfilling life.

My ideal client is anybody who has suffered with a mental health issue such as, depression, anxiety, eating disorder, trauma, difficulties with a relationship or a desire to truly self actualize. This client is truly fed up and ready to heal or doesn't want to waste time just growing in awareness, but truly wants to see shifts in patterns of behavior and thinking.

Life can be hard, but it can also be wonderful! Therapy is a safe and sacred space where you can unmask and unpack during those times when you feel the heaviness of life, feel stuck, or held back by your past, trauma, stress or grief. Therapy with me is centred around processing the past and present in order to find joy again in the future. I see adults, couples and parents.

In life, we face many challenges that affect us on different levels. These may include stress, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, trauma and many others. How we deal with these challenges is important so that we can be mentally and physically healthy and live fulfilling lives. Sometimes, we just need someone to lend an ear and other times we need a professional to guide us in our process of healing. When working with clients, I believe that each client has the internal resources that can facilitate change and that thorugh a safe and non - judgmental space this can be achieved.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
