I also enjoy working with couples, families and groups with psychological, emotional and behavioral challenges using an integrative evidence based approach. I work with children and adults that are in need of any therapeutic intervention or family assessments such as Residency, Contact and Care Investigations, Socio-Emotional Assessments, Interactional Analysis Investigations, Child Participation (Voice of the Child) and Child Abuse Investigations. I provide services to clients that have been victimised by sexual abuse. My interventions are focused on attachment within the family context, and I have co-developed a program for sex and love addiction. Medical Aid does not cover any assessment evaluations.

Trust the process of healing: a Person’s life experiences directly impact on their overall wellbeing.  When we experience trauma or severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for our lives to unravel. Often underlying emotional problems need to be addressed before a lasting improvement in a person's quality of life can take place. Christel completed her internship at 1 Military Hospital where she was exposed to various aspects of psychodynamic imbalances and trauma-spectrum manifestations within a diverse demographic and cultural client base.

We all go through our life journeys using different paths which could lead us to an unplanned detour or destination. In such cases we may need someone to hold our hand or guide us to retrace our steps or re-plan our journeys. We could work together to achieve this. I am passionate and enthusiastic about working with young people, adults, couples, and their families. My practice is person-centred and focuses on clients’ personal needs, wants, desires and goals and makes them central to their care. This means allowing clients to define and to prioritise their goals.

Therapy is not a 'magic pill' or a quick fix,but rather a healing process. Each person has an inherent potential to self-actualize while being encouraged for deeper self-understanding and to adapt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. Therapy is an effective tool to assist you in navigating through life and living your best. " We repeat what we do not repair".I have precise constellation of skills and practice methodologies in conducting (individual, couple, groups, families) therapy and working with organisations for trauma defusing and debriefing.

I have been a Trauma Counsellor for the past 14 years. During these years I have come across a whole spectrum of humanity’s struggle to find meaning in their suffering, from reinventing life after losing a loved one, or going through divorce, or couples attempting to save a marriage, to teenagers navigating stormy seas in their attempt to manage every day life. I believe in the ability of people to not only survive trauma, but also - by finding a way to cope during times of difficulty and understand the way these events affect us. When trauma crosses our paths we need to discover new ways of living a fullfilling and rewarding life.

I am a firm believer in Heal - Grow - Thrive. I am passionate about people's well-being and believe everyone deserves a chance to better themselves. Counselling is all about working on yourself for yourself. I believe clients should set their own counselling goals as they know themselves best. However, when setting these goals, every step they give towards their goal, small and big, should be acknowledged. I don't view my clients as having issues or problems but rather life challenges, and to that I say.. let's face them together! Note: if I didn't answer the phone call, it means I am in a session, WhatsApp me on 066 096 7219.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
