I enjoy working with people who are seeking discover how they can re-connect with their authentic selves more fully. We all have a similar journey in life – of recovery from our childhood experiences in a modern society that typically demands conformity and suppression of our full expression. And we now live in amazingly interesting and scary times – a time for living freely in a mad world of ever more explicit and manic control. I love to work with people who see this chance to live with more freedom and self-expression and be part of the emerging global revolution of shared consciousness.

An ideal client is someone that realizes they want to change and that they need help to do it. Someone that wants to build on their resilience, who is willing to work toward achieving their own goals. Everyone has different needs in therapy and require individual solutions.

As a psychologist, my primary focus is on promoting the well-being of individuals. From my experience, everyone possesses the innate ability to actualise their full potential but may need guidance and support. My aim in life is to be a catalyst in people's journey of self-discovery, helping them identify their strengths, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals. By creating a safe and supportive environment, I aim to empower my clients to make positive changes in their lives and reach their full potential.

Life can be challenging and complicated. Our past experiences have a way of influencing how we manage the challenges life brings and we can often find ourselves repeating patterns of behaviour, which can create even more difficulties. Therapy is a space to explore these patterns and to have an experience which is safe and challenging at the same time.

I am a Community-Based Counselling Psychologist whose training and interests lie in understanding individuals and the contexts which shape them. I believe that through understanding our own thoughts and reactions, and learning to reflect on the world around us, we become more able to manage the challenges we experience in life. I work with adults and adolescents, and I am keenly interested in areas relating to anxiety, stress, grief, loss, and bereavement. I also assist people who are interested in personal development, self-growth, and discovery. I am comfortable working with both clearly defined and open-ended therapy goals.

My belief is that every person is strong, resilient, and can make meaning out of their circumstances. However, we all need support and guidance along the way. I value accompanying my clients on their journeys by building genuine and trusting relationships that foster growth, self-exploration, and healing. “Growth occurs when individuals confront problems, struggle to master them, and through that struggle develop new aspects of their skills, capacities, and views about life” – Carl Rogers.

Starting therapy is a courageous and very important step. It is possible that you have experienced a variety of losses, changed how you normally feel, or felt a strong desire to understand more about and appreciate who you are. Counselling is a setting that can be useful for navigating these situations, discovering new identities, and getting over obstacles in life. The main objective of therapy is to essentially improve the client's relationship with themselves and the outside world, in addition to helping them realize their goals. We assist clients in pursuing their ideal quality of life during therapy.

Perhaps you've been through a difficult experience, or a major life change. You might be battling with depression, or anxiety, or another emotional difficulty. If you're ready to do the work, I'm ready to work with you to get back on your feet, learn to say no, find different ways to cope, let go, or find the support you've been missing.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
