Dara Greenwood Ph.D.
Dara Greenwood, Ph.D. is a social psychologist and associate professor of Psychology at Vassar College who studies the social and emotional implications of media engagement. She is particularly interested in how media representations of gender and body image attract and impact young women, as well as the psychological motivations (e.g., the need to belong) that drive particular forms of media use. Her work has been published in academic journals such as Communication Research, Personality and Individual Differences, Psychology of Women Quarterly, and Psychology of Popular Media Culture. She has also contributed book chapters to edited volumes such as The Handbook of Gender and Psychology and The Psychology of Entertainment Media, and her work has appeared in Scientific American (online).
