Don’t Fall for the “I” In D.I.E.T.

Part 2 of my series on how to stop dieting and start living

This week we are continuing our exploration of the word D.I.E.T. in an effort to help more people stop dieting and start living with my DO or DIET campaign.

The letter of the day is I. What does I stand for?

I is for an Image you have of yourself that you’ll be ________ (good enough, smart enough, skinny enough, special enough, talented enough) if you could just lose the weight.

I is for Impulsive as in you’re just so dang hungry that you “give in” and eat a “bad” food.

I is for Ignorance because most people don’t understand how bad extreme weight loss diets truly are for them both mentally and physically.

I is for Initial weight loss because most people will lose weight initially on a diet due to calorie deprivation. But then their body wises up, their basal metabolic rate (BMR) slows down, and their weight loss grinds to a screeching halt.

I is for Idleness because you are just so tired when you go on a diet. It’s like it zaps all of your energy away making you feel like a slug.

I is for Inedible. Ever had some of those ready-made diet dinners and bars? Some of them really do taste like cardboard!

I is for Illogical. Who decided it would be a good idea to “eat” only lemon water with a touch of cayenne pepper and maple syrup anyway?

I is for Impaired, which pretty much describes the brain fog people feel when they are eating too few calories and too few carbohydrates.

I is for the you that you’ve Ignored for all these years.

What should I stand for?

I is for Imagine. As in Imagine what your life would be like if you could regain your trust in yourself and make peace with food and your body.

I is for Infinite. As in Infinite possibilities for what you can do with your life. What you can be when you “grow up” if you’d just let go long enough to learn to trust yourself again.

I is for a new Introduction, a new way of thinking about yourself. Take a few minutes to write down 20 positive things about yourself. If you’re having a hard time doing that, it might be time to take my Sticky Note Challenge.

I is for Inspirational, which is what your friends will say about you when you manage to break free of the Diet Mentality.

I is for Invincible, which is how you’ll feel once you take charge of your life again.

I is for Incredible, Interesting, and Irresistible which is totally what you are and, even better, how you’ll feel once you learn to get comfortable in your own skin again.

What is your I? Feel free to leave a comment below and tell me what your I is and what you’re going to DO to change it.
