The effect of exercise on sleep patterns mimics that of antidepressantmedications, according to a report in the journal Sleep. A review of 38 separate studies found that following exercise, subjects spent less time in the REM, or dreaming, state of sleep, and that the start of REM sleep was delayed—just as it is by many antidepressant drugs. Scientists say the phenomenon deserves further study.
