Multi-disciplinary Mental Health Practice

PBHS has been serving Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula Counties since 2008. We are a multi-disciplinary outpatient practice that specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Our practice prides itself in seeing patients within 24 to 48 hours of their phone call. We offer evening and weekend appointments and work as a team to ensure all your outpatient needs are met. As a multi-disciplinary facility, we are able to offer our patients the comfort of having their therapy and psychiatric medication management services in the same office. Your providers work together to determine the most effective treatment plan, tailored to you. Our mission is to provide compassionate, competent, and evidence-based care to individuals with mental health and addiction recovery problems so that they can pursue a life worth living. Our team is trained in DBT and work together to build skills for a happy and healthy life. We believe therapy shouldn't last forever; by providing you core skills to cope with life's challenges and effectively manage mental health and addiction problems you can create a life worth living.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)

The Intensive Outpatient Programs at PBHS offer group therapy in a safe, supportive, and validating environment. We currently have 6 groups: Adult Mental Health, which runs Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at either a daytime or evening slot, to accommodate all schedules. Our Adult Dual Diagnosis IOP, which is tailored for those struggling with addiction and mental health concerns. Our MBSR group is for those suffering with chronic pain/illness, stress and anxiety and heavily incorporates mindfulness and mediation strategies. And lastly, we offer two groups for adolescents (ages 13-17). One group focuses on addiction and relapse prevention and the other is specialized in teens struggling with depression, anxiety, stress and negative thoughts. Every group meet 3 times per week and typically patients receive 24 sessions. Group is rolling entry so you will never have to wait to start. Our staff is trained on DBT by Dr. Afsarifard, who directly studied under the creator of this treatment, Dr. Marsha Linehan. Our insurance department will learn all about your specific plan and how your services are covered. You will never have to call an insurance company.

Psychological Assessments/Testing

A neuropsychological assessment is appropriate whenever one of your care providers would like clarification of potential symptoms associated with thinking or brain functioning. An assessment may also be appropriate if you feel you or a loved one may be cognitively declining or perhaps feel you may have an attention deficit disorder. This service focuses on assessing brain functioning. You'll work with our licensed Neuropsychologist who will help you and your care providers by characterizing cognitive abilities, providing treatment recommendations, and assisting with diagnosis when necessary. Dr. Ryan Mekota specializes in providing neuropsychological services to teen, adult and geriatric populations. Individuals with known or suspected neurological, medical and psychiatric conditions are referred to Dr. Mekota for comprehensive cognitive and psychological assessments. He specializes in evaluating and developing treatment plans for individuals presenting with dementia or memory complaints, attention deficits, head injuries, possible cerebrovascular changes, and neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Mekota is currently the only neuropsychologist within Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties and offers assessments Tuesdays through Saturdays to accommodate all schedules.

IOP provides group therapy in a safe, supportive, and validating environment. With treatment, patients develop core skills to cope with life's challenges and effectively manage mental health problems. This program is designed for patients with the following diagnoses: * Anxiety * Depression * Eating Disorders * Bipolar Disorders * Self-harm behaviors, suicidal thoughts, or attempts. The Adult Mindfully-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) DBT IOP program is based upon the principals of Dialectal Behavioral Therapy with an emphasis on the practice on mindfulness and meditation to train the mind to develop effective ways of dealing with: *Life's stressful situations *Chronic illness *Chronic pain *Mental and physical health problems *Other challenges that require the application of acceptance and change strategies. MBSR has been proven to effectively decrease chronic pain and the need for copious amounts of medication. This program consists of 24 sessions over 8 weeks with rolling entry at any time.
