For many people suffering with clinical levels of anxiety, it can take years to build up the courage to seek out help, and alarmingly, even longer to find effective treatment. We want to be part of the solution to this problem. The Center for Anxiety & Behavior Therapy is a team of highly-trained, specialized, expert clinicians committed to providing evidence-based treatment for anxiety disorders including OCD, PTSD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic, and phobias. We aim to help those suffering with anxiety to find relief as quickly as possible within a warm, collaborative, and understanding environment. We offer treatment across the life span including childhood, adolescence, emerging adulthood, and adulthood and tailor our work to include either in-person or virtual sessions, based on what's best for the client. In addition to the full spectrum of anxiety disorders, specific therapists at the Center maintain subspecialities in treating emerging eating disorders, body-image issues, perinatal/postpartum anxiety, adolescent depression and hair-pulling/skin picking. Please read out Staff Bios on our website for more information.

TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), is a safe, non-invasive, effective treatment option for individuals suffering from Major Depressive Disorder who have not seen satisfactory results from antidepressants. These pulses will feel like tapping on the scalp. When delivered at the correct frequency and intensity, the pulses create localized electromagnetic fields which have the ability to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. Although treatment plans are individualized, the typical course of treatment is 5 times a week, for 6 weeks. Each individual treatment session takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and patients can resume daily activities immediately after treatment. TMS does not use anesthesia, and patients are fully alert for the duration of the treatment session. TMS can be used as a stand-alone therapy, or in conjunction with medication and psychotherapies. TMS does not have the same side effects as traditional medications, and is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are mild headache and sensitivity at the site of stimulation.

Revelare Recovery is a Women’s PHP & IOP program designed to address co-occurring diagnoses of an Eating Disorder (ED) alongside a secondary Substance Use Disorder (SUD) or Mental Health diagnosis. It operates at the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels of care. This housing arrangement ensures that clients have a safe and structured environment during their treatment period. Our supportive housing program consists of two phases: Phase 1, which lasts for 30 days and is conducted primarily in the PHP setting, and Phase 2, which lasts an additional 30 days and takes place primarily in the IOP setting. The program specifcally caters to women, recognizing their unique needs in the context of EDs and co-occurring disorders. By focusing exclusively on women, the program can tailor its treatment approaches to address the specific challenges and experiences that women may face. www.RevelareRecovery.

Why do people tend to shy away from mental health visits? Research has shown that untreated mental health issues can lead to a decline in physical/medical health. Anxiety and depression may not seem alarming at first but, without support for an extended period of time, it can cause a cascade of life challenges. Supporting mental health has directly resulted in an improvement of physical and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, since there is a such a negative stigma around mental health, it is often forgotten or neglected. We at PCDV are working every day to end the stigma by educating others on how mental health visits should be viewed no different than physical health check-ups with your PCP. All mental health visits do not serve the same purpose, nor do they all require the same level of treatment.

We work with individuals, couples and families and we specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, and depression disorders. These are big categories, and often include many other psychological struggles, such as relationships, ADHD, OCD, disordered eating, grief, and more. We are here to help you navigate the struggles that you're experiencing, offering you a space to be vulnerable and authentic. This space will help you open up and share whatever that comes to your mind, and overtime, our hope is that you'll be able to extend this vulnerability to other spaces in your life to help you have meaningful relationships and expand your sense of purpose and understanding of yourself and others. Having psychological symptoms get in the way of that can make things feel really bleak and hopeless, but you have already taking a very difficult step in searching for a therapist, so you are right on track!

Anxiety Treatment Centers

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
