Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an extensively researched method of treating opioid use disorder. MAT uniquely combines therapy with prescription medication to help people address the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of opioid addiction. Taking medication under the guidance of a professional as part of a comprehensive MAT program is a safe and effective way to eliminate the uncomfortable symptoms associated with opioid withdrawal. The FDA-approved medication provided for each patient as part of MAT is determined on an individual basis. Led by our Director of Outpatient and staffed with a team of medical professionals (Psychiatrists, Therapists and Registered Nurse), each program uses elements of evidence-based practice such as Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients in need of more supportive treatment. Hillsborough Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) is a clinically excellent provider of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with addictions to opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, and prescription painkillers. MAT is time-tested and considered a first-line form of opioid addiction care by respected organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). At Hillsborough CTC, MAT combines the use of FDA-approved medications with counseling to comprehensively address the physical, emotional, and social aspects of opioid addiction. The medications that are available for patients will vary across different clinics in our CTC network but may include methadone, buprenorphine, Suboxone, Sublocade, and Vivitrol. These medications can alleviate symptoms and cravings that are part of the opioid withdrawal process.
