Benefits of Medication-Assisted Treatment
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is a time-tested approach that offers a path to recovery for adults who have developed opioid use disorder, which is the clinical term for opioid addiction. MAT programs provide patients with prescription medications that can minimize the drug cravings and other distressing symptoms that are characteristic of opioid withdrawal. When patients take these medications as directed by the prescribing physician, they may have an easier time ending their opioid use. In addition to receiving medication, MAT patients also take part in counseling sessions. The counseling component of MAT can help patients address the behavioral and social aspects of opioid addiction and recovery. During counseling, patients can learn to identify their triggers, or the circumstances that might threaten to push them back into the downward spiral of opioid abuse. They can then develop strategies for avoiding or responding to these triggers in the healthiest possible manner. Counseling sessions can also be ideal forums for people to practice stress management, conflict resolution, and healthy communication skills, which can serve them well throughout their recovery journey. What to Expect
When patients have a detailed understanding of what to expect when they begin MAT, they can be better prepared to have a successful experience. We are always happy to discuss our procedures so that new patients feel comfortable from their very first day at our center. When a patient enters our program, they typically begin by completing an intake assessment. During this assessment, patients discuss their opioid use, medical history, and treatment goals with one of our staff members. They also receive a full physical examination from one of our doctors. The doctor who conducts the patient’s exam may write them a prescription for one of the four medications we are authorized to provide: methadone, buprenorphine, Suboxone, and Vivitrol. The doctor can describe the features and potential side effects of the medication they prescribe, explain the process of determining the ideal dosage level, and answer any questions the patient has. Another member of our staff can then review our counseling services and schedule the patient’s initial sessions. To best prepare our patients for long-term recovery from opioid addiction, we provide individual and group counseling. Our Comprehensive Treatment Center
Jackson Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) provides outpatient medication-assisted treatment for adults who live in and around Jackson, Mississippi. Our services are designed for patients age 18 and older of all genders who are struggling with addictions to fentanyl, morphine, heroin, prescription painkillers, and other opioids. Our CTC is conveniently located on Lakeland Drive (Highway 25), about 23 miles northeast of Raymond, 12 miles northwest of Brandon, and 10 miles south of Ridgeland. We are ideally positioned to serve people from communities throughout Hinds, Rankin, and Madison counties. Adults who choose to begin or resume their recovery journey at our CTC are cared for by a team that includes doctors, nurses, and counselors. In addition to providing quality clinical services, these dedicated professionals also work to ensure that Jackson CTC remains a safe and welcoming place for all who seek our assistance. We know that untreated opioid addiction can undermine a person’s self-esteem and isolate them from friends and family members, so to support our patients’ recovery efforts, we also focus on helping them rebuild their confidence and repair their relationships.
