MAT combines the use of medication and counseling to treat patients who are struggling with opioid use disorder and give them a comprehensive treatment experience. The prescription medications used in MAT have shown to alleviate the uncomfortable physical symptoms of withdrawal, such as nausea and cravings. MAT also involves counseling that allows adults to address things like past trauma, learn how to manage negative emotions, and develop healthy coping skills.
