Our expertise is our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for individuals struggling with addiction to alcohol or drugs. We also have a new Mental Health IOP for people that do not have any active substance abuse but are working through some rough areas and need more support that just and hour or two of counseling per week.Both the substance abuse and mental health Intensive Outpatient Program meet 3 days a week 3 hours a day. Our groups are small, average 8 or less clients to provide that individualized attention to meet your needs. Park Royal Hospital provides a partial hospitalization program (PHP) for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with mental health concerns. This outpatient level of care offers a structured environment in which patients receive treatment, and then they return home when sessions aren’t taking place. In our PHP, we treat patients who have depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, other mental health concerns, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Patients in our PHP participate in evidence-based treatment five days a week, engaging in five groups per day. Typical length of stay is two weeks, though that depends on each patient’s individual progress. Licensed therapists conduct all group therapy sessions, which utilize modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), the 12-Step recovery model, and motivational interviewing. Within these processing and psychotherapy groups, topics may include relationship boundaries, stress management, grief and loss, anger, and communication. Weekly art therapy and medication management services are also available.

When you decide to take that brave first step to overcoming your addiction, detox is where you begin. You have to get the drugs out of your system before you can begin the rest of the healing process. Detoxing is actually a natural process — when you stop taking drugs, they will exit your system within a few days. As long as you do not put any drugs back in, you will be cleansed. In the throes of an active addiction, you continue putting your substance of choice into your body and never let it exit entirely. After some time, your body and brain learn to function with a certain level of that particular substance at all times. When you start to feel any withdrawal symptoms, like a headache, anxiety, tremors or anything that makes you uncomfortable, you reach for another dose, and those physical feelings go away. However, doing so adds to the cycle of addiction. The key is to get through those withdrawal feelings without taking another dose of drugs, and addiction makes that nearly impossible to do on your own.
