As a mental healthcare professional, educator, and advocate, I am always looking for new ways to provide care for anyone seeking help. Many factors contribute to your life story including trauma, family history, relationship problems, health, and societal issues. My approach is based on understanding each person as a whole, not just the trials or diagnosis they’re facing. I firmly believe in delivering treatment that is both empathetic and uplifting for everyone I have the honor to work with.

Together we can work to uncover and discover a deeper, more aware and authentic self. There are solutions to the problems or challenges you are facing. As a therapist, I have several years experience working with individuals and family members affected by addictive patterns, substance use and abuse, depression, anxiety and trauma. I also have experience working with couples or individuals dealing with various marital/relationship challenges.

I believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative process, which occurs in a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. My work with individuals is psychodynamic and insight-oriented, based on the idea that our sense of self is organized around the primary love relationships of early life, and that "mapping" these emotional experiences allows more freedom from self defeating behaviors and promotes the development of new choices. Integration and and processing early relationships can help one move towards a more conscious life in which you accept your past and are able to move towards a future of your own making.

Most people need help at various times in their lives navigating difficult experiences. My approach is collaborative, action-oriented and positive with individuals and couples. When relevant, I incorporate somatic (body) approaches, including EMDR and Brainspotting modalities to working with anxiety, phobias, trauma and other issues. My practice also includes the option of "walking and talking" outdoors. I am influenced by IFS / IFIO (parts work), self-compassion, feminist, and polyvagal approaches. I help clients connect more deeply with the past and address barriers to well-being in the present.

I can imagine you’re tired; waking up most days feeling like you didn’t get enough rest, plagued by your never ending to-do list and tasks for the day, wishing you could run away and actually take the break you need. I can imagine you’re fed up, with your relationships feeling unfulfilling, with working so hard to get nowhere, with living up to all the expectations…I mean, shouldn’t life get easier at some point? I want you to know that I get it, and there’s hope. You’re not lost, or too far gone, even if it feels that way sometimes. This is where your story gets good and when you find your own belonging.

Trust and confidentiality are vital to the therapeutic relationship and process. For parents of transgender and non-binary youth, this can sometimes leave them feeling "out of the loop." Before their child came out, they came in. As a result, parents often find themselves behind and may feel confused, overwhelmed, and sometimes scared about what this new information means about their child and future. In an attempt to close the knowledge gap, parents often rely on asking questions but are often met with anger from their children and sometimes feel shut out.

Your story deeply matters to me. I provide relational, integrative, and sex-positive therapy to queer and BIPOC clients. My clients are looking to make their minds and bodies a safe home and are often the first in their families to have the courage to disrupt limiting beliefs and cycles. They seek to challenge expectations as they dare to redefine themselves wholeheartedly. Together, we will make space to explore the impact of generational and personal traumas, navigate the complexities and beauty of intersecting identities, and create meaningful, lasting, and accessible healing practices. Let's connect!

We are all a work-in-progress, capable of change at any age. I work with individuals who are: curious about making a life or career transition; needing support with parenting and family life; grappling with grief; craving accountability with goals; wanting tools for anxiety and depression; spiritual seekers; or individuals simply needing to untangle complicated feelings and talk it out. Each new day offers another opportunity to become who we want to be. You don't have to do it alone. Therapy can help with this process.

I believe that, at the unconscious level, each of us has a deep understanding of what our unique purpose is (i.e. a true sense of Self). However, through conditioning, life circumstances, cultural/societal expectations, and many other variables, there has grown a great disconnect between the way we are and who we truly want to be. In a safe, supportive and collaborative environment, I will help you navigate through this process of deeper self-understanding and reconnection in order to live a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life.

Something isn't quite right lately! Things feel off and it's time for a change. Whether it's creatively rebooting, overcoming imposter syndrome, feeling more resilient, or navigating a new transition there's a way to change the patterns that aren't working anymore. When stress hits or we feel stuck we tend to revisit coping that doesn't serve us well. We may feel motivated to change, but lost as to the next steps. I work collaboratively with clients who are curious about their struggles and eager to collaboratively problem solve. We work together to uncover the patterns that aren't working anymore and explore solutions.

So much can get in the way of our ability to receive and give love in healthy relationships. I enjoy working with people who are seeking healing from past wounds so that they can love themselves and others. I help people develop self-confidence and self-awareness that promotes creativity and deeper connectedness. If you’ve experienced trauma or if you struggle with negative beliefs about yourself, EMDR may be a helpful resource and is a specialty of mine. I am also certified as a Safe and Sound Protocol provider, which helps people experience a felt sense of safety and calm.

How can I find a therapist in South Pasadena?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
