Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) was initially developed by Marsha Linehan in the early 1990’s to help clients that were suicidal or intentionally self-injuring. However, it has been shown to be effective with other impulse control disorders including substance abuse. This is a strength based, skills building program. We teach 4 sets of skills in a 25 week model, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, and Distress Tolerance. We have a program for teens and adults in three locations, Auburn, Davis and Folsom.

About Anxiety: Anxiety is the result of fear. These symptoms tend to produce a "fight or flight response" causing us to take action so twe can be "safe." Typically ones instinct is to go into a "flight" response, rather than stay and "fight" what is scaring us.
