Who We Are
Formerly named 'Alter Wellness Care,' our Laguna Beach facility is a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) designed for individuals seeking recovery from challenges related to mental health or substance mis-use disorders.
Partial Hospitalization Program
PHPs can be a beneficial option for anyone with mild or moderate symptoms, or who may have already completed an inpatient or residential program. The Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Program is more comprehensive than its IOP counterpart. It is a full-time mental health treatment program that runs six hours each day. Every day, patients under PHP attend a combination of group and individual care led by licensed therapists. Alter’s PHP implements a variety of evidence-based therapies, including psychiatry, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, experiential therapy, and additional specialized services, if needed. The length of PHP treatment depends on a patient’s progress. Often, the goal is to step down to IOP, which is considered a lower level of behavioral health care.
Intensive Outpatient Program
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a lower level of care and requires individuals to attend at least nine hours of group and/or individual therapy per week, which is divided up into three-hour sessions, ranging three-to-five evenings a week, typically for 4-6 weeks. We offer two state-of-the-art, expert-led IOPs at two levels: IOP5 and IOP3. IOP5 is our first level of IOP and the longer of our treatment programs, lasting a total of 40 to 60 days. Clients can attend multiple therapy sessions a day, offered Monday through Friday. While not in therapy, clients have full control over their days and may choose what they wish to do. IOP3 is our second level of IOP and is the shorter of our IOP programs, lasting 30 to 40 days. Clients can choose from one of two morning or two afternoon therapy sessions, Monday through Friday.
