What do psychotherapy and counseling supervisors do?

Clinical supervisors are experienced therapists who provide oversight to other counselors and therapists. In most cases, clinical supervisors work with newly licensed therapists to achieve full licensure in their state, as most full therapy licensure requires a minimum number of supervised practice hours to obtain independent licensure authority. Some clinical supervisors may also work with already fully-licensed therapists if such therapists are interested in receiving feedback on their practice or introducing a new therapy modality to their work. Supervision typically involves both observation of therapy sessions, as well as clinical case review outside of therapy sessions.
