Dr. Young Ok Kim enjoys helping those facing diverse challenges such as: anxiety and depression, trauma (including growing up in an abusive family), self-esteem, attachment issues, struggles with loss and grief, relationship and family conflict, and spiritual struggles related to mental health. Particularly, she has a special heart for 1.5 and 2nd generation Asians and their parents who face difficulties related to the unique generational differences stemming from language and cultural barriers. She provides therapy in both English and Korean and she is licensed in California and Illinois.
Dr. Kim's approach involves identifying and addressing root causes of an individual's concerns, rather than settling for temporary short-term solutions. She helps clients explore their experiences and relationships to uncover underlying patterns that contribute to their pain. In doing so, She believes that each will experience their authentic self.
Dr. Kim worked for ten years as an international worker (missionary) and received four masters' degrees in Intercultural Studies, Theology, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Clinical Psychology, as well as a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. She is interested in integration of faith and psychology.
