As the key events emerge through our explorations together, I help you process them in tailored ways (such as EMDR) so that these events will be much less distressing.
Sometimes a seemingly minor event from childhood, or at other times major traumatic events that happen at any age, can overwhelm and stress us. Either immediately after or years later we start to feel the effects of these events. We may feel depressed or angry, feel anxiety or panic for no apparent reason, have unexplained physical pain, or experience difficulty sleeping or nightmares. These may start to interfere with daily life, work, and relationships. If some or all these are your experience, you are certainly not alone.

I use evidenced based approaches, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), for when talking feels too much, CBT, and mindfulness practices.
Are you crispy from helping others, secretly wish someone would ask what you need but know you’d just say you’re fine? It can be hard to know what we need and find ways to feel supported. That’s where therapy can help. People often come into my office saying, “I hate accepting and asking for help.” I work with folks who support others, formally (counselor, first responder, nurse) or informally (family, friend, partner), and find they need tools to care for themselves, navigate past traumas, connect with their loved ones, or realign with their core values. You deserve a teammate on your adventure towards relief and joy.

I am an EMDRIA approved trained EMDR therapist, and I specialize in assisting clients in moving through their past trauma experiences.
Parenting is difficult as is, but throw in trauma, mental health, and/or chronic illness, and it can feel like we're always treading water with no end in sight. As a chronic illness mama myself, I know how hard it can be to balance caring for our health & our kids! For over 10 years, I have been working with children, teens, & adults. I love working with parents & kids to assist them in meeting whatever goals they have from reprocessing trauma, building self esteem, or managing life transitions. Life can be hard, & I love helping others to recognize all the things worth celebrating in it especially themselves!

I have several methods that we can utilize in our counseling sessions such as; EMDR, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT and others.
My motivation working with clients is to assist them to live their best life. Whether you are dealing with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, I want to work with you to lessen the amount of energy you are using to cope. They take so much of our energy that they leave us with little to put toward living our best life. It becomes a vicious cycle that seems we can't break, untreated they can take over our lives. Working together we can lessen their effect on our daily lives and have energy to focus on the good in our life.

I am also trained in EMDR.
My hope is that we can work together to establish goals and clarify the values that are important to you. As we look at what's going on in your life, we will consider what you have tried before and what barriers are hindering you from living the life you want. Together we will develop creative and flexible strategies that you can try in the future. I do not "fix" people, nor do I have all the answers in life. Instead, I deeply care for hurting people. I will help you consider other perspectives and build skills that will empower you to live a more authentic life. My hope is that you will feel seen, understood, and accepted.

I offer an integrated approach using body-centered therapies, such as EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, and IFS, while staying true to biblical applications that ultimately bring freedom and healing.
Do you find yourself dwelling on the past or worrying about the future? Are you feeling emotionally or mentally disconnected with yourself or in your relationships? Or maybe (if you're really being honest) there's a gap between what you know to be true about your Christian faith and what you actually believe in your heart? Stress and trauma can leave us feeling disconnected in so many ways. As a Christian therapist specializing in trauma, I help clients understand the deep impacts of trauma, while also supporting them in rebuilding a healthy connection with their body, soul, and spirit.

My methods include EMDR for trauma, creative therapy, geek therapy, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, developmental models, and experiential therapies such as parts work.
My approach is to meet each client or couple where they’re at and help them get to where they want to go, whether that’s easing symptoms of anxiety, improving their relationship, or exploring some of the many aspects of their identity (sexuality, gender, partnerships, academics, career, etc) and what’s next for them. I am a generalist, and I also have expertise working with relationships and the alt-sex community. If you are feeling stuck or confused in your life, counseling can help you define past influences that got you here and where you want to go, and provide you with skills and guidance to get there.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
