Are you depressed, easily angered, or stressed out? My name is Shannon Smith with SLS Counseling Group, LLC, specializing in providing high quality behavioral and mental health services. I am a licensed Psychotherapist, Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), and I am committed to building self-esteem, improving decision making, and developing appropriate coping skills to adults in the community. I focus on individual and group therapy, which ranges from academic underachievement to substance abuse. Each individual has a trait to be resilient and the inherent capability of achieving goals.

I’ve been in the behavioral health field for 14 years. Many of my clients are dealing with common, everyday life struggles,and I am able to quickly get to the root issue and guide them in their search for the best solution for themselves. I provide a peaceful, safe, collaborative environment that promotes hope, laughter, and healing to individuals, couples, and families looking to find solace and understanding in their lives.

I am the owner of Forward Counseling & Consultation and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Substance Abuse Specialty and an Independent Clinical Supervisor with over 23 years of experience. I have an unique background working with interpersonal violence, mental health, trauma and substance use, which allows me to nurture a safe and trusting environment while empowering individuals to realize their full potential and reach their personal goals. I believe in treating the “whole person” which includes addressing their spiritual, physical, and social needs.

I currently have 3 opening available in my schedule for a client who's focus is their positive outcome. No matter the challenge of ADHD, Adjustment, Anxiety, Autism, Chronic pain, Depression, Personality Disorders, Schizophrenia, Substance abuse, or other psychotic disorders, I can help. Therapy is not a one size fits all and custom individual treatment plans are created. I have provided clinical services in a number of settings including college/university counseling centers, community mental health clinics, and in private practice. My own research and scholarly interests focus on LGBTQ issues, clinical supervision, supporting underrepresented college students, and current issues in training mental health clinicians. I am a generalist by training and work with clients with a variety of presenting concerns. I enjoy developing relationships with my clients in longer term therapy but often work within briefer treatments as well. I am flexible in my approach to help my clients achieve their goals.

I have worked in the field of Mental Health Counseling for over 20 years and have extensive experience working with adults, families, adolescents and children. I received much of my clinical training and experience working in inpatient hospital, residential treatment and outpatient treatment settings. During that time I held a variety of professional positions, received quality supervision and completed my Masters Degree in Community Counseling.
