Couples come to see me for premarital counseling, healing from betrayal and infidelity, and developing better communication and conflict management skills.
I am the founder of the Relationship Center of Milwaukee, a group practice that focuses on providing couples with the skills, insights, and courage to develop themselves and their relationships. My 30-year experience as a psychologist and psychoanalyst has reinforced my belief that people heal, change, and grow in connection to others. Love relationships are simultaneously the greatest source of comfort and happiness in our lives, but also potentially the greatest source of intense stress and misery. Yet, we keep on trying. The thirst for good partnership is unquenchable.

I am on faculty at the Family Therapy Training Institute where I teach couples counselling and family therapy.
Are you concerned that your relationship is drifting apart and you can't seem to get back that romantic love, friendship, closeness, emotional connection, comfort, support, and intimacy? Do you feel stuck again and again in similar misunderstanding and hurtful arguments, not being able to resolve your differences? Have your efforts to solve your relationship problems left you feeling so resentful, checked out, disheartened, disappointed and worn down and you are realizing that you are tired of feeling so alone and don't want to keep living like this? If you answered, “yes” to any of the above, I would like to help.

I specialize in helping clients heal from trauma and dissociative conditions. I often see clients who have found that prior therapy did not go deep enough or that they can talk about their issues but remain stuck in the same unhealthy patterns. I help clients get beneath words and to transform the deeper feelings and emotions that are driving such patterns. I also have considerable experience working with loss, chronic illness, depression and anxiety, career and relationship transitions, questions of identity/purpose, relationship conflict, and navigating academic and creative work.

I believe partner and family support is essential to the treatment process.
I believe in an integrative approach to counseling; focusing on bio-psycho-social and strengths-based models while seeking to understand clients through a trauma-sensitive lens. I value each client's journey and work to develop a relationship based upon trust and connection.

I am dedicated to helping you through mental health, family, relationship, and health difficulties with empathy. It can be difficult to make impactful, long-lasting changes. I work most often with individuals having stress, anxiety, and issues with various relationships in their lives. I use Cognitive Behavioral and Client-focused Therapies to assist individuals in finding their own unique capacities for growth.

While the challenges have been many the wisdom I have gained first hand allows me to be an insightful, intuitive, & empathetic relationship coach for sensitive souls.
I offer coaching to sensitive women who desire a more sane approach to dating and relationships. They want meaningful connection but struggle to find it. They want to enjoy themselves more and be in their heads less. They want to have better boundaries, better choices of who and what they give their attention to, and better self-talk as they navigate the ins and outs of relationships. They feel over-sensitive; are questioning their life choices; are realizing they want to feel more confidence, connection, and joy.

Normal is a setting on a dryer. We are all unique and valid individuals with vast minds. We all have different situations and I believe in using those pieces to heal and build strength. While I specialize in trauma, addiction, and mood, our struggles are usually not that one note or simple. I focus on all aspects of who you and where you want to be, building a strong relationship based on empathy, trust and non judgement. Life is rough, we lose sight of our way, stop seeing the beauty, forget who we are, feel stuck or changed. It takes courage to be vulnerable and reality is we are imperfectly perfect.

I help individuals and couples navigate life’s challenges to create the BIG, beautiful lives they were meant to live.
Change is inevitable, they say...and it’s hard. Whether the change you're experiencing is unexpected or was hard sought-after, the effect is largely the same: it leaves you feeling disoriented, misunderstood and alone. In place of the control and mastery you once felt in your life, there is now chaos. You find yourself either paralyzed by in-decision or fighting desperately to find a foothold, but you just keep slipping...

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
