Does it seem like you are just going through the motions of life? Do you feel life's inevitable highs and lows either too intensely or from a place of numbness/disconnection? Followed by the use of unhealthy coping skills (alcohol, drugs, excessive social media, etc.) to bring desperate moments of relief, only to be caught in a vicious cycle. You do not have to surrender to the idea that this is just how life is. Change is possible; our brains can form new connections and learn new behavioral patterns regardless of age.

I am interested in continuing my work with those living with mental health concerns as well as those that are dedicated to working through their traumas related to their childhood and adult experiences. It is my continued hope that I will be able to assist those we serve, to do and feel the same with their trauma and addiction through EMDR and treatment.

My approach is both collaborative and engaging working 'with' you and not just silently observing. Having worked with a wide range of clients from diverse backgrounds, I've learned to customize my approach to best meet 'your' needs and not force you to fit a predetermined modality.

My professional experience includes working with anxiety and mood disorders (child and adult), trauma, women's issues, premarital counseling, relationship conflict and dissatisfaction, couples' communication, divorce consultation for individuals, couples, families, and children; grief and loss, siblings of special needs children, family issues and parenting concerns.
I work with individuals, couples, families, and children addressing everything from everyday stress to chronic anxiety & depression. Many clients simply want an objective and trusted listener. I offer a comfortable and private setting for you to settle in and talk about your concerns. Maybe you're contemplating a change and not sure about your path; a new job, starting, ending, or recharging a relationship, confronting someone or resolving old hurts. The thought of change is usually more overwhelming than the actual act of change; anticipation often far worse than participation.

Life can be tough. It can and will throw curveballs at us causing us to experience anxiety, fear, depression, and so much more. We are meant to have life and have it abundantly, but these curveballs make it so so difficult to enjoy life. This is one of the reasons why I entered this field so that I can come alongside those who've been stuck in these curveballs, those who've lost hope. You are not alone in your struggles. Together, we will work on identifying your problems, needs, and goals so that you can have life and have it abundantly.

I have been working with toddlers, children, adolescents and their families for over 15 years providing therapy, parent support, and assessment. I take a collaborative warm approach. I have been trained in many evidence based treatments and bring the knowledge I’ve learned to each of my sessions. Knowing that one size doesn’t fit all and every person is uniquely different. My goal is to meet patients where they are, understand their needs, and work together through change in a supportive environment.

Specialty areas: LGBTQ+; sex trafficking; PTSD/trauma; children/teens; relationships; self-harm; shame; sexual assault; and parenting/blended family issues.
The hardest part about therapy is having to deal with those thoughts, feelings, and memories we've been pushing aside for so long. What makes it even harder, are our fears of being judged for who we are, what we've gone through, or how we've acted. I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable being your true self. I do this by showing you genuine compassion, empathy, and understanding as we work through the tougher stuff. As such, I work with children, teens, families, and adults whose social, academic/work, behavioral, physical, and/or emotional well-being has been negatively impacted by ongoing mental health struggles.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
