My name is Dan Dashner. I am dually licensed in the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders. As a therapist, I prefer to look beyond labels and identify and resolve root causes for emotional pain and suffering. Clients I work with are typically individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing some form of emotional discomfort, or emotional pain. Sometimes this is stress brought on by recent changes to work, family, or significant relationships. Other times the focus of therapy is with clients who've made repeated but unsuccessful attempts at resolving a persistent condition.

I am dedicated to providing a safe, confidential, respectful atmosphere that progresses into open communication and self exploration in order to better understand thoughts, feelings, and behavior. I believe that by accessing our strengths we are better able to explore problems and implement strategies that will help live our lives to the fullest. In order to do so I utilize techniques from Solution-Focused Therapy, Psychotherapy (talk-therapy), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My goal is to personalize therapy to meet the unique needs of each individual I work with in order to promote lasting therapeutic change and symptom relief.

Erica is a therapist's therapist. I work with the elements of nature to reveal the sources of discomfort, disharmony, and dis-ease that are often the source of pain, suffering, and trauma within a person, family, or ancestral lineage. I believe that a holistic approach is vital to true wellbeing and that healing occurs on multiple levels- emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual. In addition to clinical experience, I lived in West Africa and after returning I apprenticed with Dagara Elder, Malidoma Somé.

For over 15 years, I have had the privilege of counseling people of all ages and backgrounds that have struggled with anxiety, depression, marital conflict, family issues and academic concerns. You don't have to struggle with difficult emotions or experiences alone; let me help! If you are experiencing feelings of anxiety or depression, we may explore the parts of you that are hurting and how to resolve the hurt. We may focus on increasing positive emotions or learning from the difficult ones. Adjusting to the stress of college? After working as a therapist for the past 15 years (Seven years in private practice while living in Colorado), I’ve learned that I do my best clinical work with clients who appreciate structure within the therapy session; prefer a direct approach; demonstrate a readiness and commitment to making their mental health a priority; attend sessions on a regular basis and take action to practice new tools outside of therapy sessions.

Whether this is your first time in therapy, or you have been to therapy before, I respect the fact that you are reaching out. My goal is to make you feel comfortable and address your concerns. Prior to the first session I will send you a form to complete, which will ask you several background questions. This will be very helpful as we get to know each other. We will do a preliminary treatment plan, where we will discuss your treatment goals and how you might start achieving them. It is your plan and you can make changes at any time. Of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have. I want us to be a team.

Clients deserve to have a safe space to discover options for their healing journey. Clients, regardless of needs and goals all have one thing in common; grief. The idea of losing someone, something, or a unexpected change in life brings upon the grieving process. It is not expected that everyone suffers alone and in silence; this is only the goal of stigma. Bring all of the hurt, guilt, shame, desperation, and pain to the safe space of therapy and use it as a stepping stone on your own carved path to overall health and wellness in mind, body, and spirit.

Starting therapy can be a daunting process, difficult in finding openings and in feeling connected with providers. I like to start the therapy process giving time for developing a relationship with my clients as the basis for gaining skills and healing from past experiences. I never push clients to feel uncomfortable or approach topics before they are ready. I try to meet people where they are at, sit with them in their current feelings and emotional states and offer skills to shift out of these states. My main goal is to provide a safe place of support for clients to feel heard and understood in their own life experiences.

Living with ADHD can be like having a busy city in your brain with no crossing guards, no stoplights, and no working clocks. Everything is coming in fast from all directions and you’re not sure what comes first, last, or where it’s going. You know you’re smart. You know you’re capable. It’s the doing that always seems hard. Sometimes you get to it and then get tunnel vision and lose track of time. Other times you get distracted by something midway through. Sometimes you just don’t have enough juice to start. Sometimes you don’t know how to get started. Sometimes it’s so boring it’s painful. Why do other people get it so easily?

What are your hopes and dreams? What makes you happy, and what’s getting in the way? Many of us spend a lot of time thinking and worrying about these questions, when talking about them is where the magic happens. If you’re working on changing your drinking or drug use, coping with nightmares and challenging memories, building a sense of safety and trust, addressing self-esteem issues, improving your mood, and managing anxiety, then getting the right help makes all the difference.

“What matters?” This is one of the most important questions I can ask of my clients. Without knowing what matters what they are passionate about, neither of us know why we are in the “room." To figure out the why (Why WOULD I do my homework, why would I go to practice, etc.) gives us a meaningful direction. Also let’s talk about fun. Isn’t that the whole point of NOT being an adult? If I’m not enjoying the session, I can bet my client is definitely not. I work hard to ensure a relaxed and welcoming environment that is filled filled with unconditional positive regard, hard work, humor, flexibility and appreciation, and fun.
