The lasting pain of sexual or physical abuse is obvious, but the subtlety of an emotionally neglectful or spiritually abusive upbringing often has similar outcomes of self-blaming and deep shame. It's by no mistake that my practice is called Likewise; I've struggled through the healing process, and I still get stuck. But I do the work because I value my option to thrive, and am keenly aware that my decision to do so affects those connected to me.
