Life can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and the world around us, which can lead to difficult feelings like fear, sadness, shame, and confusion. Therapy provides space to explore and understand barriers to connection and to identify how to address them.

Perhaps the distress is due to communication, betrayal, lack of care, expectations, or other relational issue. If you are experiencing disconnect and pain within your primary relationship, reach out. You do not have to walk through this type of distress alone.

I enjoy working with people to create a nonjudgmental space that is tailored to their needs and goals. My view is that we are connected internally and externally in a web of different systems that impact us, and through understanding how these systems and the client are affecting one another do we get a comprehensive view of what’s going on. When appropriate and agreed upon, I will work with people in these different systems (e.g., family, loved ones, teachers, primary care providers, social workers, parole officers, etc.) to help provide continuity of care and a cohesive treatment plan.

I trained in one of the longest-running accredited marriage and family therapy programs in the United States and furthered that education with an additional graduate certificate in Sex Therapy.
Growing up in a small, midwestern town, I came to realize that we don't get nearly enough information on how to properly engage with one another in our relationships in healthy and fulfilling ways. As a queer and trans person, the lack of information was exponentially worse. As a therapist, I want to be there for people who recognize this and want to have better relationships with others and with themselves. I also want to be there especially for my fellow queer and transgender people given how lonely I felt thinking that there were no therapists like me. While I didn't get that, I want to BE that for others.

I offer an eclectic approach to therapy, including treatment strategies from Narrative Therapy, DBT, and Person-Centered Therapy. I use a somatic and mindfulness-based approach to treatment and tend to rely heavily on self-compassion to combat self-judgment.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist who utilizes a systems perspective to help clients connect the dots in their lives and experiences.
We have all felt the rumblings and eruptions of change in our personal and collective world the last few years. It is in compassionate and dynamic response to these changes that I have evolved in my practice as well. It is my great privilege and honor to serve those who are yearning for a spiritual component to guide and illuminate their personal and relational therapeutic work. It is my clinical and personal perspective that when we embrace our own deeply personal divine gifts, the potential for living a life of meaning and purpose arises. As we embrace the change within ourselves, we become the change our world so needs now.

I am a marriage and family therapist as well as a play therapist specializing in attachment work and Sand Tray Therapy.
I understand that therapy doesn't have to be a life-long process but it can help significantly when you are going through difficult circumstances that create worry, anger or a feeling of being at a loss. Stress seems to be an indicator that issues need to be addressed. I am a therapist who believes that my clients have many of the answers to their problems, I am there to help them through the journey to uncover what the answers are.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
