Are you feeling overwhelmed with life? Do you and your partner not feel close any longer? Is there a sense of feeling "stuck" and not feeling motivated to move forward? I support all people and couples who want a more enriching and fulfilling life for themselves. Some have reached a place in their life journey where they have experiences that are so overwhelming, they need someone there to listen and help support them.

I am a person-centered clinician, and I draw from feminist theory, acknowledging and committed to challenging systems that negatively impact mental/emotional well-being.
Asking for help is hard, and it’s when we feel heard, seen, and understood, that healing and growth are most accessible. I am here to hold space for you, or you and your partner(s), to explore and challenge yourself in pursuit of greater truth and authenticity. By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working through these feelings can propel you forward. Allow me to help.

I use an integrative approach, encouraging you to be more compassionate and kind to yourself, while fusing empowerment through feminist/multicultural/social justice modes, and supporting your authentic self to shine.
We all have things we like in our lives and things we'd like to change for the better. This may mean improving relationships, a desire to improve mood, and/or addressing health issues or social issues impeding on one's ability to have the life they want. We are all doing the best we can, but often we want something more out of life, and we need some help to bring this to fruition. Therapy provides a safe and supportive space to identify what is going well and what might need change. It can also facilitate new effective ways of being.

I utilize modalities such as CBT, DBT, Narrative, & Feminist Therapy to support clients in navigating the impact of systems of oppression on our lives & mental health.
Social conditions teach us that pleasure must be "earned", & that our worth is directly linked to our productivity. I am passionate about collaborating with individuals looking to find joy by identifying barriers to pleasure & rest, & developing a deeper understanding of beliefs that contribute to our own discomfort with pleasure. Many of my clients are experiencing a life transition- starting new job, becoming a parent, opening up a relationship, considering divorce. Together we will explore ways to increase compassion & acceptance, & lean into pleasure so that we feel more prepared to better cope with these changes & stressors.

Although I specialize in women's issues and utilize a Feminist lens when working with individuals, I have experience in working with couples and men.
I recognize finding a therapist can be challenging and overwhelming. I hope my profile gives you a sense of who I am as a professional and if I may be a good fit for you. I believe the foundation for therapeutic success is understanding the unique strengths of an individual. Tapping these resources that we each have assists individuals in finding their "best self" and increases the ability to problem solve, cope with difficulties in life, build stronger and healthier relationships, and increase overall quality of life.

Depth, Existentialism, Feminist, and Hermeneutical Psychology are home base for me.
I have always enjoyed getting to know the depths of what is going on inside of people. My favorite clients have been hurt and have kept masks on for a while. Their intuition tells them that coming to life means revealing their truth and becoming present with what's going on inside of them. My therapy is not designed to be a one size fits all and I appreciate those who are motivated to grow, even if they're not sure exactly the direction. I enjoy working with anyone overcoming trauma and anyone looking for a big permanent change in their life. I also provide supervision for therapists in training.

As a therapist, my speciality is working with the chronic overthinkers. The individuals who feel overwhelmed by life's ambiguity and feel panicked over change. I know how exhausting it is to constantly question your own, and other's, actions. Chronic overthinkers often experience increased levels of anxiety and perfectionism. I am sure you’ve tried all the breathing exercises and self-help book tips and tricks to ease your racing mind, judgmental inner voice, and pounding in your chest, but have not seen lasting results. You deserve to dig deeper and find your peace in a safe and accepting environment, rather than facing it alone.

So many of us feel like we are stuck in certain ways- whether it be stuck in our patterns of behaviors, our overwhelming emotions, our reactions, our relationships, or any other way we may be feeling stuck. I want to work with people who feel like they are stuck and aren’t sure where to go next. I intend to help people feel empowered and free. I am an integrative, individualist therapist who chooses to see therapy as a process of connecting and moving towards living a more authentic life. The population I work especially well with is women trying to come into their own identity and sense of self.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
