Anyone, at any given time, across any geographical or demographical divide, can experience emotional distress and compensatory adaptive behaviors to recalibrate and/or regulate. This is the human condition. Yet, when this distress is prolonged, and behaviors once adaptive become maladaptive, the emotions are harder to regulate, and evidence of this is seen in key domains of functioning: intellectual, interpersonal, intrapersonal, occupational, and educational.
The work doesn’t end in our 1-hour session. It extends into the remaining 167-hours of the week. The most critical part of the work occurs OUTSIDE of the therapeutic space when you apply the skills from our session to your everyday life with the intent of improving your level of functioning and catalyzing your healing process.
When it comes to therapy, theoretical modalities only go so far. The most important intervention in the room is NOT found in a book. It is the therapeutic relationship, the unspoken bond between therapist and client, that facilitates breakthroughs.
