I have expertise in working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, dysphoria and survivors of trauma.
No one is broken. What does it mean to be you? What are your heart’s secret longings? What are the heavy parts you carry in your body and the hopes that you have yet to speak aloud? Healing is not linear. Let us explore the winding path that is you: in the memories of your past, in your experience of the present, and in the possibilities of the future. I am a transgender-identified therapist who specializes in work with LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones. In addition, I work with trauma survivors, people who have experienced othering, and people in life transitions.

I work with clients managing depression, anxiety, symptoms of trauma, and relationship or attachment issues. I have also specialized in working with trans and queer clients as well as BIPOC clients. My approach understands that past emotional harm can negatively condition our brains and that a safe, caring relationship can help rewire our neural pathways. I focus on developing a trusting and honest relationship with my clients, offering them curiosity and compassion. Instead of suppressing, avoiding, or living life around your feelings, you will develop the self-trust and skills to value and care for them and be transformed.

We all have the capacity for healing and personal empowerment but life can get in the way! You want to detach from painful past experiences, start liking yourself again, and start really living your truth. Your relationships keep feeling hallow and disconnected. Worry about rejection or safety feels normal. You're barely keeping up with things, let alone trying to add in a therapy appointment each week! But you can feel it. You just can't keep avoiding these simmering feelings anymore because they keep coming back, they just keep coming back. I'm glad you are here, you're in the right place.

Pull up a bean bag chair, grab your favorite fidget, and let's talk. Maybe you describe your life as "a lot," and struggle to find the spoons to get all your stuff done as well as make meaningful change. Maybe anxiety takes up so much space in your day that it leaves little room for the things you want. Maybe your story includes trauma, and that burden is getting so heavy, it hurts. You want to pursue fulfillment, satisfaction, meaning, and peace in your world. If any of these or other painful places in your heart are true, I would love to get a chance to walk alongside you and find what you're looking for together.

Do you ever worry that you're 'too much' or 'not enough'? Would you be happier if you were different? Those feelings are common, especially for people of marginalized identity. In the therapy space, my goal is to deconstruct narratives about what you're 'supposed' to be and instead, help you love who you are right now. I specialize in supporting individuals as they navigate the complexities of LGBTQ+ identities, trauma, alternative relationship dynamics, and intersectionality.

I have particular interest in working with folx with depression and anxiety, those leaving oppressive systems, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and those who have survived and/or inflicted trauma.
When experiences are too much, too fast, too soon, or should never have happened, it often leaves behind pain that requires attention and nurturing. Sometimes we need someone to provide that for us before we feel ready to give it to ourselves. Therapy at Portal is co-created, meaning we consider and honor your individuality, your story, the wellbeing of your mind/body, and your goals for the future. Facilitating a safe enough space is prioritized, so that you can continue to experiment with new ways of being, loving, processing, and feeling. The goal is to integrate what works for you into the story you are telling with your life.

Do you feel isolated? Do you simultaneously want connection and feel that you have a hard time trusting people and opening up to them? Do you have a tendency to intellectualize your problems? Is it sometimes hard for you to feel your feelings? When you do feel them, do you often feel sad or anxious but are usually able to redirect and feel “fine”? Do you cope by focusing on external goals and hobbies? Do you wish that you could feel a deep and lasting sense of security, peace, and belonging?

I truly believe that we have the innate capacity to heal ourselves, & within us, the keys necessary to accessing our own true nature. We can be cut off from our own wisdom, preventing us from accessing & recognizing our strengths, our gifts, our love, our joy - the very essence of what we have to offer the world. My role as therapist is supportive and collaborative, towards helping you to discover...& recover...missing or lost pieces. I employ an intersectional lens to my areas of interest which include identity work, spirituality, trans & LGBQI issues, grief & loss, anxiety, & depression.

Accepting new clients! My practice as a social worker and therapist is grounded in the belief that the most effective treatment, and transformative healing, takes place within relationships- in the therapy room, and in our communities. Nurturing a therapeutic alliance rooted in connection, safety, and radical acceptance is central to my approach. As a saathi (companion, ally) on your healing journey, I am here to offer care and support as you process and integrate your experiences, navigate current challenges, and develop your innate strengths along with new skills.

I am here to help provide support and welcoming space to individuals who might find themselves moving through the world at contrasting angles to the “accepted narrative” of our surroundings. This can often open the door up to feelings of depression, anxiety, heightened stress, and feelings of displacement & disillusionment. Ongoing life stressors and past trauma also impact how we go about engaging with the world. Learning new ways of coping and moving through life can be tricky - it's okay to reach out and ask for help!

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
