Hello! Do you wish to feel more authentic and secure within yourself and your relationships? Learning about our values, history, and attachment styles provides some fascinating insight into ourselves, relationship patterns, and narratives we believe to be true about ourselves. However, when we are open and willing to accept, learn, and grow from our past, we are able to make peace, heal, and alter our attachment styles and create new narratives about ourselves. Together we're able to accomplish a lot, feel better, and have developed new strategies and a new narrative.

Thank you for your interest. I am a retired (2001) combat veteran with twenty years of military service. My credentials/licenses are in Marriage & Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, and Chemical Dependency. My therapeutic approach is based on cognitive behavior research which has found a strong correlation between thoughts and behaviors. Additionally, I use the Narrative Therapy approach to understand emotions rooted in the client's life experiences that shape their strengths, fears, beliefs, values, and reactions to different types of stress.

I draw upon a blend of Narrative Therapy, sex therapy, and the Developmental Model to guide our work together.
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel like stepping into the unknown–a blend of excitement, hope, and perhaps a lot of apprehension. If you've found your way here, know that you're not alone. I am a systemically trained therapist dedicated to creating a safe and affirming space for individuals, couples, and nonmonogamous folx to explore their stories and struggles.

I integrate psychodynamic and narrative therapy with mindfulness based methods to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to mental health and well-being.
I have a particular expertise in working with individuals within the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and I am deeply committed to providing affirming and respectful care to people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship dynamics. I understand the importance of cultural competence and sensitivity when working with diverse populations, including those who engage in kink and alternative lifestyles. Whether you are exploring your identity, navigating relationship dynamics, or seeking support for mental health concerns, I offer a non-judgmental and affirming space where you can feel understood and accepted.

While working with me, you may note I borrow techniques from CBT, Narrative, Play & Art Therapies, what many refer to as talk therapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, Sand Tray, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and more.
I believe that all persons have the basic right to be heard. We all have experiences that make us who we are, some of which we may need or wish to explore further or heal from. Together in counseling we can create a safe place to work toward agreed upon goals.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness in my approach.
I became a therapist because I saw the importance of sharing our stories without fear of judgment. It’s because of this understanding that I strive to create a space for you to feel safe to be your true self no matter where you are in your mental health journey. When working together, we will focus on your individual needs and goals–these could include anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, or trauma just to name a few. Ultimately, I believe that we are the experts of our own lives and my goal is to provide support where I can.

Theories I currently utilize include solution focused, person centered, and narrative.
As a holistic systemic therapist, I believe that people are shaped by their experiences and the people they’ve encountered along the way. I work from a place of non-judgement and celebrate body positivity, 2SLGBTQ+, and neurodiversity. I tend to use interventions from various theories, and will do my best to shape sessions so that they best fit my clients and their needs.

I am a mental health counselor and I specialize in trauma, depression and anxiety, incorporating CBT, Narrative Therapy, and art. I am a trauma-informed therapist. I know the word trauma is both scary and popular right now. My graduate degree was pointed towards PTSD and that's the space I like to work in. This doesn't mean that other mental health issues cannot be addressed during our work together. I like to get a detailed history of one's life, to include childhood and relationships history, past and current coping skills, some of which might have become more detrimental than helpful.

Narrative Therapists
Is narrative therapy evidence-based?
Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.
How long does narrative therapy last?
Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.
Does narrative therapy work?
Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.
What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?
Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
