Welcome! We can all use a little bit of help sometimes. Having the courage to recognize that, and take action, says a lot about you and what you want to see in your future. Do you find it difficult to regulate your emotions, and see that this difficulty interferes in your relationships, work, school or other aspects of your life? Do you recognize thought patterns that repeat on loop and keep you stuck? Are there past events or present circumstances that you need help processing? Perhaps I can help. Therapy is a journey toward healing, acceptance and self-discovery. I would love to partner with you on your very personal journey.

Do you have a good enough marriage, but crave deeper intimacy and connection? Do you struggle as a couple to find the closeness you once shared? Has your relationship been impacted by betrayal, unwanted pornography use or infidelity? Do you feel overwhelmed by unresolved conflicts around money, household responsibilities, sex, or parenting? Now more than ever couples need help developing deeper emotional, physical and spiritual intimacy. Not addressing your most important relationship can lead to loneliness, conflict and distance. I believe that hope, security, and intimacy can be restored to even the most ruptured relationships.

Do you feel stuck? It can be devastating and disorienting when things don’t feel right between you and your person. As humans, we need connection, and when our primary attachments feel threatened, it can almost feel like a matter of life and death. During times like these, couples need an objective outsider who can figure out the underlying processes that are keeping you stuck. As a marriage and family therapist trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, I am a process consultant. I use my knowledge of family systems and attachment to help you stop your relationship from spinning out of control.

Now accepting new clients (adults, teens & couples) If you are feeling distressed with tangled emotions on top of dealing with life chaos, I believe you can find peace. Anxiety, depression, and disconnect from our loved ones can bring out parts of us that we may find incongruent to who we want to be. I help individuals and couples find clarity, connection, and authenticity through empathy and a client-centered perspective. Through therapy, you can learn how to untangle messy feelings and live life purposefully.

I work with individuals who want to make sense of their emotions, heal from trauma, and build authentic relationships with their loved ones. Many of my clients are brave change-makers, the first in their family to break multi-generational patterns. They wonder how to forgive, cast away anger, and move forward while at the same time standing up for themselves and their needs. They want tools for immediate relief, but they want to go beyond managing symptoms. They know that this work is so much bigger than themselves and that they are creating a new legacy for future generations

You've lost yourself. There was a time when you knew yourself well and felt strong in who you are, but life, relationships, uncertainty, and doubt have crept in and now you're not so sure of yourself anymore. You feel like you're always trying to please others, or making excuses for not being what you think you should be, and you feel like a fraud. Like there are different parts of you showing up for different people, and it's hard to be authentically you. And it's exhausting! Hi, I'm Katie! I love helping women overcome anxiety, depression, grief, heal from trauma, create fulfilling relationships, & live the life you want to live.

Our time is valuable and it’s important to me that the client feels that value when ending each session. This is the client’s time to enter the space in a judgement-free, safe, and confidential setting. It’s a place to take a bit of a break from needing to be the one who has the answers in high-stress and intense scenarios. It’s also a space where to take the time - at your own pace - to process through trauma or any other stressors you may be facing. Life can be hard. But we can still find joy, fulfillment, and hope for the future. In order to get there, let’s first talk about it.

Sometimes you just need a safe and confidential space to sort it all out. Life and relationships can challenge us to our very limits as we try to love other people and hold onto our own sense of self at the same time. It can feel overwhelming to navigate the emotions, interaction cycles, and patterns at play in relationships. As difficult as these challenges are, they are ultimately the key to our personal growth and development. I work with couples who want a better partnership, and want to feel heard, valued, and understood. I help them find genuine connection in their emotional, mental, spiritual, and intimate relationship.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work together effectively, but, especially for those whose concerns relate to their religion or cultural background, a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond, even if they do not have an extensive history with or understanding of their client’s background before therapy begins.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Church of Christ/Latter Day Saints values?

Each individual brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of therapeutic modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition such as LDS that strongly influences the conduct of everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process.

Why might someone feel comfortable with an LDS-attuned therapist?

While qualifications and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. It is wise to find a therapist who is responsive to your questions and concerns and with whom you feel you can establish a rapport. A therapist who is sensitive to LDS values and beliefs and the role they play in the lives of Church members can offer Mormon clients a welcome sense of safety, assurance that their community and culture will be understood, and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, all of which support the therapeutic process.

How do I recognize a good LDS therapist?

LDS therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Mormon principles and values. They have an understanding of the culture and the important role the Church plays in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of emotional difficulties those raised in the faith can be prone to. Like all effective therapists, a good LDS therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of everyday life.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Mormon/LDS therapists?

The directory of LDS therapists includes therapists who have shared their cultural background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information; these individuals would not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with LDS clients and/or communities, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
