Therapy is a wonderful opportunity for personal growth. It is also helpful in overcoming human experiences such as anxiety and depression, for improving relationships and for changing behaviors that may be hindering our quality of life. It is common to experience hesitation or ambivalence when starting therapy, much like many other new beginnings.

My style is warm, compassionate and direct. I enjoy helping motivated adults to strengthen their innate gifts and overcome blocks to lead more authentic, creative, fulfilling lives. I help individuals move forward with relationships, sexuality, work and career, and aid them in reducing anxiety, depression, low self-worth and self-defeating thoughts and habits. I welcome all faiths and spiritual practices, all ethnic backgrounds, and all gender orientations. I help couples forge a win-win approach to intimacy, caring, responsibility and fun.

Ah, this life! In the lyrics of an old song, ‘Nobody said it was easy, no-one ever said it would be so hard’. I’ve spent most of my life dedicated to human connection- to self and other— bringing deep curiosity to how we can belong deeply to ourselves, and still be loved and belong deeply to one another. It’s not easy. Yet, it truly is possible. And, we need courage and guides along the way. That is where I can help. Our time together is a place where you can unfold yourself. Where you can learn to trust again. I am skilled at working in the deeper realms of grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, and above all intimacy and sexuality.

Life often requires multi-tasking and keeping up with the fast pace. For many of us, it is hard to stop and find the time to attend to the soul. Inevitably, the soul demands attention, and periods of confusion, crisis, illness, or life transition can transform into opportunities for depth work. Anger, stress, illness, anxiety, and depression do not exist in a vacuum and involve a complex interplay of personal, familial, and cultural dynamics.

You cannot recover from anxiety by just remaining calm, or depression by just being positive. Recovery from the battles of life takes time, patience, and releasing old habits. Whether you’re facing mental illness, parenting, relationships, or life transitions; change must occur in order for peace to resurface. It's okay to feel unstable, it's ok for things to not be ok, and it's okay to ask for help.

I work to best understand your perspective, provide empathetic listening, and teach skills to build resiliency against depression, anxiety, and trauma. I work from the perspective that we are influenced and impacted by the people and situations in our lives. Understanding how these relationships affect us helps us to better understand our behavior and allow for positive growth. I believe that through working together, each individual/family can develop skills that promote living a meaningful, healthy, and purpose-filled life. I have a unique understanding and awareness of varying cultural perspectives that influence our lives.

I love working with individuals, as well as couples. I have a lot of experience working with queer, non-heteronormative, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ clients, but that is not to say that I don’t love working with people who do not identify within those marginalized identities as well! I enjoy working with those who want to learn more about how to manage anxiety and panic disorder, engage with attachment disorders/historical ruptures, and childhood trauma. Trust, initially, is not earned, it is a risk. And so it means if you experience distrust upon our first encounter, well then you might just be a member of the human race. The safer someone is, the more likely they are to venture into trust, and so this is the primary specialization of therapy, to create a space that is safe. There are varying degrees of safety, but for the most part it comes when: you can be yourself, feel acceptance and positive regard, do not have to protect yourself from abusive behavior, experience confidentiality and kindness, a willingness by someone to help, and that the person before you is authentic.
