I believe in honoring your intersecting identities and how they contextualize your experience. As a multicultural mixed Asian American (of Korean/Filipino/white ancestry), highly sensitive, queer femme, the question of how to navigate life in the duality has perpetually challenged and inspired me throughout my life, delivering me to this work. I'm passionate about working with clients of marginalized gender, sexuality, and racial identities who are exploring their truths related to culture, race, generation, and queerness. I hope that together we can explore the important intersection of personal transformation and social change.

I am deeply informed by my lived experience being Thai, a child of immigrants, Buddhist, queer, non-binary, and non-monogamous.
Therapy offers a temporary refuge from the pressures of our day-to-day lives. It's a space for us to better understand ourselves and practice how we want to be in the larger world-especially in a world that actively harms so many of us. We all carry trauma that informs our behaviors, sometimes resulting in anxiety, depression, and interpersonal conflict. I work with clients to find what lies at the root of these problems and discover solutions. I take an integrative approach to this, meaning I draw on a variety of different treatment modalities based on your needs.

As a Queer Filipino-American therapist, I offer a person-centered, strengths-based, and culturally-sensitive approach to therapy.
Life is challenging when you feel like you don't fit in. Navigating your identity in a world that doesn't always understand is tough. Whether you're part of the LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent, or from a marginalized background—society's expectations might feel overwhelming and exhausting. Seeking a safe space to explore these feelings and embrace your unique qualities without judgment is important. Life should be more than just surviving day to day.

I enjoy collaborating with individuals and couples, especially those who identify as Black, Indigenous, POC or apart of the LGBTQ+ community, to access their innate healing power, reclaim ancestral knowledge, and achieve their vision of wellness. I practice with the beliefs that everyone is the expert of their own story, and have the power to heal themselves under the right circumstances. I provide support to those ready to process and work through past trauma, sexuality, relationship challenges, life transitions, spirituality, identity struggles, multicultural experiences, and building connection and intimacy.

Growing up Hmong-American (second generation), gay, and Christian (nondenominational, pastor’s kid), I can appreciate the intersectional experience of navigating multiple and competing identities.
I especially enjoy working with those interested in exploring: socialized masculinity and sexuality (e.g. regulating sexual behaviors / OCSB-informed, desire discrepancy, body image, values and beliefs...), the specific interaction of faith/spirituality and sexuality (e.g. shame, trauma...), intersectional identity work (i.e. our complex and interacting layers as people), surviving dating, navigating life transitions, and living with anxiety (e.g. social, highly sensitive person...) and depression.

I am a queer, mixed-race Asian with Japanese and white ancestry, social work masters student/intern therapist at Perfectly Queer Counseling.
I work to co-create a safe space with my clients that is uniquely built around the needs, desires, and experiences of each individual. I come to this work with the belief that systems of oppression impact our mental health, and my therapeutic approach is rooted in principles of anti-oppression, trauma informed care, and collective liberation. I prioritize working with BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ identifying folks. I am particularly excited to work with people as they explore the intersections of religion and queerness, navigate relationship dynamics, explore identity, process grief, work on boundaries, and embody their lives more fully.

As a cisgender lesbian growing up in an Asian society, my experience led me to explore psychopathology and mental well-being layered by sociocultural factors.
I graduated from the Graduate School of Education of the University of Pennsylvania with a master’s in counseling and mental health services (M.S.Ed.) and a master’s in professional counseling (M.Phil.Ed.). I have experience working with adults with diverse backgrounds, providing bilingual services (i.e., Mandarin and English), addressing a wide range of client problems, and managing different platforms for conducting therapy.

I create a safe space for queer and multicultural couples and AAPI and BIPOC individuals to explore their experiences without the fear of judgment fully.
Perhaps you feel trapped by other people's expectations and our society's expectations of you. Perhaps, it is you who set high expectations for yourself that you cannot seem to meet whether it is about your appearance, your career, your relationships, or your sexual and gender identities. As a recovering people pleaser and a queer Asian therapist, I understand it can be a challenging journey to liberate yourself from all the "impossible" expectations and to find the kind of life you prefer to live. You want to show up in everything you do and in every relationship as your authentic self.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
