I admire the courage it takes to seek help and make change, and believe everyone has the capacity for healing. I bring compassion and curiosity to my person centered work with clients. My approach is collaborative, feedback driven, strengths based, and often infused with play, art, and nature therapy techniques. While the work we do will be as unique as each client, I am most inspired by internal family systems, emotionally focused therapy, solution focused brief therapy, and AEDP.

The techniques I use are primarily Mindfulness based – meditation, journaling, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques or "Tapping"), Guided Imagery and deep breathing exercises.
Through the use of EFT (Tapping) and other Mindfulness modalities, I provide processes and exercises that help my clients reduce stress, regulate their emotions and work through the emotional pain from triggering memories. My aim is to help clients release the thoughts and patterns that block their progress in order to enhance their ability to achieve the life they desire. I have helped clients work through grief, phobias, cravings, emotional pain, limiting beliefs as well as childhood memories that were still impacting their lives in the present. My clients leave the session feeling more grounded, centered, mindful, and at peace.

I specialize in working with couples, as well as adult individuals struggling with addiction. I see you as a whole person and am mindful of the pain you have experienced and get there are many ways to recovery. These are normal questions for most people suffering and questioning addiction. I create safety to help explore these questions.

I provide a safe and compassionate space for you to reflect, find clarity, and feel supported as you make changes to make your life more what you'd like it to be. Sometimes this is after many years of trying to make relationships work without therapy. Sometimes this is when you realize you're too lonely and isolated and need some support to break those isolating habits. Sometimes this is when you have taken on all the stress and responsibility of your family and you feel at your breaking point. Psychotherapy can help you find ways to make your life the one you want to be living.

Rachel's therapeutic approach is founded in attachment and relational therapies. She believes relationships are the foundational piece upon which healthy and functional lives are built; that we all flourish when we live in connection with others, engaging mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. These same relationships may also be the cause of one’s greatest pain or struggle. The therapeutic relationship you will develop will serve as the foundation in addressing past and present wounds. Together, her hope is that you can find healing and growth.

We all want to be seen and understood and at the same time are afraid of what we and others will find. We don't trust ourselves or our decisions. We suffer from anxiety, depression, traumas and a myriad of other relational issues. In counseling we learn to understand ourselves and others by telling our stories well. As a greek philosopher once said, "An unexamined life isn't worth living". When we learn to examine ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and truth our life becomes clear hopeful and fullfilling.

Hi! I’m Dani. I specialize in helping overfunctioning and overthinking women heal from relationship issues, painful childhood experiences, and major life transitions. Do these sound familiar? “Your dad will be home any minute! Hurry and make sure the house is clean!” (Modeling anxiety, people-pleasing, fear and performance-based relating to others, the list goes on.) “I have XYZ diagnosis and my spouse hasn’t l eft me because of it, you can’t just walk away when things get hard!” (Shame, judgment, religious trauma, ignorantly comparing abusive behavior to a mental health diagnosis, minimizing the effects, blaming the victim, etc.)

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
