I see patients with anxiety and depressive issues, eating disorders of all kinds, and over all mind and body wellness concerns. I enjoy helping people slow down and be their own healer sifting and distilling goals and values in to actionable movements in life. In this process I utilize self compassion, CBT, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, motivational interviewing and mindfulness combined with nutrition and lifestyle counseling.

I believe that humans are constantly evolving, seeking to reduce suffering, and can enhance self-awareness by delving into the depths of their unconscious mind. There are things in life that challenge us, our values, and our beliefs. As a result, our natural response might show up as stress, anxiety, anger, or grief and lead us to start asking ourselves some tough questions about the meaning of life. It is through counseling that we can start to explore these thoughts and become more self-determined and confident in our choices.

I have always been drawn toward both internal experience and relational dynamics, and find nothing more enlivening than facilitating corrective bonding experiences between a couple or family members. I believe problems and solutions are best understood within their systemic context, and I see the interactional space between people as the primary arena for change. Because of this, I am most in my element when working with couples and families who are caught in chronic cycles of conflict or disconnection. There is nothing so moving as the coming together of two people in moments of true, unscripted vulnerability.

My name is Katie Raser and I am a licensed mental health counselor with a background in social work. I have been providing individual counseling to adults since 2017. After working with folks of all ages and in all stages of life, these days, I work with expectant and new parents, struggling with the transition to parenting, anxiety, depression, or other mood changes, or PMADS (previously referred to as post-partum depression). While I primarily work with birthing and pregnant people, I also am happy to work with non-birthing parents as well.

Welcome to my page! I appreciate therapy because it is a way to learn and grow. Each of us has a mind, heart, and emotions so it makes a lot of sense to learn about how our mind and body work. It is also a courageous act. It takes courage to reach out, courage to feel uncomfortable emotions and courage to embark on change. The foundation of my therapy approach is self-compassion; it is the desire to understand ourselves from a place of curiosity rather than criticism. As we begin the change process it can be easy for clients' self-criticism to increase therefore, we will develop your ability to treat yourself with kindness.

I am an AEDP therapist (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) I deeply appreciate the non-pathologizing, emotion-focused, neurological, client-centered, attachment-based, interpersonal emphasis and spiritually grounded nature of AEDP I am also trained in and utilize EMDR, art therapy, authentic movement, mindfulness-based stress reduction, EFT, etc.
No matter how straight & smooth we try to make it, life is, by nature a crooked line & a bumpy road! Depression, anxiety, grief, trauma...all by-products of living life. Fortunately, we are hard-wired for health; drawn to people & situations that foster our transformance. However, we develop coping/protective mechanisms that hinder that innate tendency to thrive. We create stories about ourselves & the world that keep us scared & isolated. Therapy is the sacred and confidential space in which these, up until now, forbidden feelings, self-thoughts, memories can be carefully, sensitively and intentionally brought forth into the light.

Counseling is sacred work. It is through the vehicle of relationship, with both God and others, that humans were intended to experience restoration. While indeed relationships can be a source of pain, they are also a powerful force for resiliency. Through the therapeutic relationship, I enjoy coming alongside clients on their journey by providing a safe and compassionate space for exploration. Together we will go beyond just symptom management and work toward understanding the root of what you are experiencing. Whatever you are facing, you were never meant to do so in isolation.

Have you ever heard of the term "Kintsugi" before? It's an ancient Japanese art form wherein an artist takes the broken pieces of a vase, and mends the cracks back together to restore the art piece. Each crack is then highlighted with strokes of shimmery, golden paint. Kintsugi encourages the artist to heartily and radically embrace the pottery's scars to reveal a new and enriched beauty. I have always been inspired by the redeeming process of the Kintsugi art, especially as it relates to counseling. The very art form itself seems to question why brokenness should invalidate worth, pride, beauty, and value.

The ancient Hawaiians call the soul ‘Uhane: at times when we are in pain or suffering we may feel like we are “ ‘uhane ‘ole” -which means without a soul. True peace and healing comes when the ‘uhane, the physical, spiritual and mental state, is healed. At ‘Uhane Counseling we strive to heal the soul in order to restore peace and tranquility to each client.

When something about you or your life is exceptional, your therapy needs to be different, too. People who are intellectually inclined, highly sensitive, intense, or gifted may find themselves out-of-synch with those around them. They may be unusually insightful, consistently two steps ahead of others, and find that their thoughts and feelings move quickly and intensely. They may find others put them on a pedestal for their success while simultaneously pathologizing their sensitivities, drive and inability to "fit the mold." This can be painful and create anxiety, depression or existential questioning.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
