You are feeling lost after a big life change. You just finished college, you've retired, you have ended a relationship, you are a newlywed or any number of good or difficult life transitions. You are trying to find your new footing, but feel you just keep slipping. Are you feeling overwhelmed or scared by the changes in yourself or your situation? You’ve lost your confidence and you’re not sure you can get through this. Life is full of changes, transitions, and complications. Sometimes these can be difficult to adjust to, even when they are good changes.

If what you are doing with your life and relationships only results in a mess, you can learn to change all that to your satisfaction. I have the skills and experience to teach and support you in the process. The process involves learning who you are (how you feel, what your needs are), how to expose and change self beliefs that are misdirecting your life, how to put words to it all, and finally learn how to express yourself in a meaningful, constructive way to others. Clients tell me how much they appreciate their new self-understanding and relationship skills.

Not accepting new clients
I work with those who have suffered from low self-worth for most of their lives; with people who believe they are unlovable and unworthy of connection or belonging, and who would classify themselves as 'not enough.' These sorts of beliefs are extremely painful and often cause us to cope in ways that can lead to issues with eating disorders, pervasive anxiety, depression, feeling out of control with emotions, social isolation, crisis of faith, and insecurity in relationships. When we struggle with low self-worth we tend to become our own worst enemies and can easily get stuck in this pattern, not knowing how to free ourselves.

While my academic background is clinical, I am a faith-based practitioner for those seeking Christian counseling.
I am board certified in counseling, especially enjoy working with men and women misunderstandings, and their worries. I assist clients explore their life experiences, to notice how they have shaped/affected their responses to life challenges today. The therapy that I apply heals without re-traumatizing, and successfully helps clients overcome depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, DID, or PTSD, including adult survivors of ACEs. After therapy, people find themselves spontaneously reacting to current stressors in more age-appropriate ways, utilizing their God-given inner strengths and core qualities such as self-assurance, calmness, clearness, audacity, creativity, compassion, and connectedness.

I enjoy serving people from all walks of life and have worked in several diverse location. I envision therapeutic work in three tiers, depending clients' needs and preferences. Some people wish to deal with specific issues and "get back on the road" right away. Others wish to solve deeper issues such as depression or anxiety. And still others want to uncover the roots of their concerns and work toward healing on the deepest possible level. I am comfortable at each of these levels but am especially suited to the deeper level work.

Feeling lost, hurt, emotionally drained and afraid, let me help. I know that asking for help is so very hard especially when at times it feels as if no one could possibly understand and you're alone in pain but I am here to help. I have been helping for almost 20 years and I am honored when I get to be a part of your life. If you allow me, I will go with you through your difficult journey to find that peace, relief and sense of purpose you so desperately seek. I am a Christian and use the same teachings and beliefs that Jesus led and talked about that taught acceptance, love, compassion, forgiveness and peace.

As a Christian therapist, I also utilize faith-based principles at your discretion.
Making the choice to seek help in overcoming hardships in your life can be one of the scariest and one of the most rewarding actions a person can take in their life. If you find yourself here, you may be considering a journey towards long-lasting and significant change. In each stage of life, there are unique challenges that can impact your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physical health. Lack of support, encouragement, or sense of community make these challenges unbearable. My role is to utilize my training to provide unconditional positive regard and safety when overcoming barriers and discovering effective solutions, together.

If you expect the world to conform to you, you may also expect a lifetime of bitter resentment. No problem is an impairment until you allow yourself to take up the cry of "I Cannot, I Cannot, I Cannot." Some therapists will "support" you in this cry and hold your hand as you walk into hell. I will help turn your heart towards "I Can, I Will, I Am."

I AM ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. The human spirit is an amazing thing. Like the Phoenix, we are capable of rising from the ashes as our past is burnt away and stepping into a new future. This can be accomplished by changing our point of view; how we think determine our behavior. Through the use of an individually tailored eclectic therapy approach, you can learn coping and resiliency tools to assist you in making positive change. it starts by letting go of our past negative, harmful thoughts and replace them with new positive, healthy thinking. As our perception changes, we can create positive change to reach our goals.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
