The client-therapist connection is one of trust and empathy and is central to the healing and growing process, forming the container for change. Together we create a collaborative therapeutic relationship where each client has the opportunity to explore their true self, reflect on possibilities, and gain insight that leads to action. Our goal together is to build more authentic connections, with yourself and others, which will allow deeper insight into your experience and define the action needed to move forward.

Hello! Welcome, and thank you for being here. While it’s certainly possible that you enjoy reading therapist profiles just for fun, it’s more likely that you are here looking for help of some kind. Without being indifferent to your suffering, please allow me to say, congratulations! It can be uncomfortable to admit that you are not feeling your best and to decide to ask for help. I hope you are also feeling empowered as you make the pivot towards healing and recovery.

Have you or someone you love received a recent diagnosis of a serious or terminal illness such as cancer? Has coping with a chronic illness left you feeling isolated and struggling to make sense of yourself and the world around you? Has someone you loved died and you need extra support as you grieve? Do you experience disenfranchised grief, such as divorce, facing an empty nest as children enter adulthood, aging childless when having a child is something you wanted, or any other life transition that shakes our sense of meaning and identity?

Many people reach out for counseling when life gets painful or problems become too difficult to deal with alone. In therapy we will explore your thoughts and feelings to heal from the past, find a path through the challenges you face now, to move towards a meaningful and fulfilling life. I will help you figure out how to navigate a new approach to the issues that bring you to therapy through interactive conversations in session and new practices to try between sessions. I use evidenced based therapy modalities including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness.

I draw on EMDR, Narrative Therapy, Parts Work (IFS), Motivational Interviewing, Expressive Therapies, and CBT, always tailoring my approach to fit your unique needs and journey toward emotional and mental well-being.
I believe deeply in the power of healing and transformation. My experience in homeless services and search and rescue inspired me to learn how to help others heal from trauma. Over years of training and practice, I've witnessed many people restore their lives, and I love being part of this process. As a mixed Indigenous (Mohawk/Métis) and white (Swedish/Irish) male, fluent in both English and Spanish, I work alongside others in Washington state and Hawaii to foster mental and emotional healing. My priority as a therapist is to understand you—your story, and hopes. Together, we will build a path to help you thrive.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy to help others achieve their goals.
I believe that everyone does the best they can with the skills they currently have. But sometimes life has some challenges, even unexpected ones, that can impact our mental health and well-being. These challenges don’t have to be faced alone. Through these challenges new skills can be acquired to help deal with the stressors life may bring. Together, we will identify goals you would like to achieve from counseling and work towards reaching them.

I use various techniques such as motivational interviewing, active listening, mindfulness, psychodynamic and solution-focused methods.
We all experience anxiety, fear, depression or suffering - especially when faced with life transitions. Teens transitioning to adulthood, families transitioning through marriage/parenthood/divorce, and individuals transitioning through career changes are all common, but often stressful experiences. These transitions also have the potential to bring joy, reflection and peace. However, we all need help sometimes to find the joy in our lives. I particularly enjoy helping adolescents and young adults find their path through the world.

Calling the truth-seekers, the plant medicine-sitters, "the lovers, the dreamers, and me", this is an invitation to work with someone who *gets it* and is committed to being part of the modern paradigm shift. I don't want to diagnose you, but instead help you find the gift in all the ways you are uniquely YOU. Working for 15+ years in addiction & recovery makes me somewhat of an expert in those realms, but I am much more interested in revealing how YOU are the expert of your experience. Together we will find the path back to your own loving heart thru Inner Child Work and Psychedelic Harm Reduction & Integration. REMEMBER with me

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
