The past 24 years working with clients in mental health I have experienced positive results using Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational, Brief, and Narrative therapy's treating depression, anxiety, grief, anger, co-dependency, relational issues and addictions.
For many years I struggled with shame and doubt about who I was, often feeling lost and hopeless. I would exercise my feelings through control or passivity in relations with others. It wasn't until I received help from a counselor that I started my journey of healing that lead to my discovery of an authentic self who could practice healthy relationships, acceptance, love, and feel worthy from the inside out. At that point I chose to become a Counselor so as to assist others in their journeys of self discovery.

The therapeutic techniques I typically use are cognitive behavioral while incorporating family systems and focusing on the clients strengths.
As a counselor, my role is to create a safe environment where you can feel secure and supported. My style is respectful, warm and interactive. I value a strong therapeutic alliance as a basis for personal and behavioral change and emotional growth. When working with teens, I find collaborating with caregivers to be most effective in fostering growth and positive change. I also find it essential working with adolescents to build a strong rapport as a foundation to further enhance the therapeutic process.

In my studies and training, I have focused primarily on a body-mind approach to human psychological development incorporating psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and systems-oriented principles.
I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups. My current focus is primarily on people dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, attachment, life transitions, trauma, family and other interpersonal issues. I use a highly respectful approach in helping my clients address their issues and build effective coping and communication skills. This can include identifying and shifting limiting patterns (based on experiences of the past) that have continued to influence their present-day emotions, attitudes, interactions, expectations, and decisions. I work with each individual in a way that empowers them to stay in charge of their own therapeutic process.

Reflecting on my own counseling practice, I have discovered the overwhelming strength and healing power of human connectedness which is an essential cornerstone of my therapeutic counseling relationships. Life is a journey filled with both opportunities and challenges. When daily life and/or life transitions seem too overwhelming, the guidance and support provided from a trusted professional who is empathetic and objective can be informative, empowering, and restorative. I use cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic interventions to help clients discover how conscious and unconscious thoughts impact emotions and behaviors. In addition, I draw from a variety of counseling theories to meet each client's individual needs.

Cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma therapy have been successfully employed in my four years of counseling, and I look forward to sharing these approaches with you!.
Trauma, in its many forms, creates a barrier to joy. We endure symptoms and work hard to adjust, but sometimes it's hard to manage. Many people develop instinctive coping skills to survive, and yet, these survival skills create residual anxiety and depression. Each can lead to isolation. No one should be alone with these experiences. I hope to share my knowledge to help you manage your trauma. I'm an eclectic counselor, former teacher, and full-time empath trained multiple modalities. My background helping others has created a noticeable enthusiasm to connect and share in my client's story of growth and change.

People come to me usually for one of two reasons: (1) things are going well but they want to grow and evolve, (2) things are hard because of a past traumatic experience or a current situation, and healing and change is needed. Symptoms often include anxiety, depression, issues related to trauma, anger, grief and relationship issues. I work from a depth psychological perspective which means that I address the cause of symptoms as much as the symptoms themselves.

Do you find yourself struggling to break unhealthy cycles of toxic relationships, mood swings, or generational patterns, no matter what you do? You may be fed up with your own inability to cope and connect well with others, feeling full of shame and regret. You might not even remember a time when things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to find some clarity. You’re ready to start feeling confident and secure in your own skin. Most of all, you’re ready to find the empowerment you need to turn over a new leaf.

As a Recovery Coach my aim is to meet you where you are, and to let you know that wherever you are is normal. I am able to engage clients outside the confines of traditional clinical practice, providing support where there might currently be gaps in your care. This can look like: Meeting in the community—whether you need support going to a recovery meeting or you want encouragement while eating a meal. Sharing my own experiences with mental health, sobriety, and eating disorder recovery. Long and short-term goal setting, and hands-on support taking steps to achieve those goals.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
